    Waterlogged keel

Always check the entire boat. Sounds strange but most of my waterlogged foam was in the bow (due to a lower walkway for the galley and plugged floor drain). So, in checking the transom and aft stringers, it did not appear to be waterlogged foam. Even though I had rot in the transom and...

    Which resin to finish floor?

I am no expert and just getting ready to lay deck in my boat. From what I have read on here (search the threads), it depends upon the type of "wear and tear" your deck will see and if you can afford the amount of epoxy. In my case, I had to use polyester through out including the stringers and...

    Waterlogged keel

I don't know anything about your particular boat but you probably won't be able to dry it out. I have had my boat in dry storage for 5 years now and just removed the last little bit of floor in the bow. The stringers and foam were still saturated with water after all this time.

Fuel Pump Diaphragm Rupture Hose Type?

I found that Mercruiser at one time had a flame arrestor with the tube fitting built into it so I guess I am ok with adding a fitting to the top of the flame arrestor assuming that is legal with the Coast Guard. I actually need to get another flame arrestor since the one I have does not have...

Fuel Pump Diaphragm Rupture Hose Type?

There aren't any vacuum ports on the carburetor (other than the choke diaphragm). The dark things lower left and lower right are the idle mixture screws.

    Shorelandr VIN location?

My 1976 Shorelandr trailer has the VIN stamped into the frame rail just behind the tongue on the driver's side. VIN's are almost always stamped and the labels usually just carry the load rating information as you see in your picture.

    How to ID this trailer

Check the NATM site for placement of VIN numbers but most of them are on the tongue or frame near the tongue and usually stamped. Might be hard to find if rusted or painted over.

    Trailer brake system opinions

The only issue I have had with surge brakes is when trying to back up since the brakes would set up if you were backing up a slight incline. I replaced my backing plates when I rebuilt my brakes with the new style of backing plate that prevents the brakes from setting up when backing up a...

    run a ground wire

I absolutely hate having wiring and light problems. I completely rewired my trailer and ran separate grounds along with left and right turn signals and tail lights starting at the front trailer connector down both sides of the trailer. My ground to the towing vehicle goes through my trailer...

Replacement Tires for dual axle trailer?

I had to replace all the tires on my tandem axle trailer (22ft boat) back in 2017 so went with the Carlisle's as well as the best I could find at the time. I bought the boat in Denver and put on the new tires (and wheels) to make the move from Denver to Southwest Washington. Three days of...

Fuel Pump Diaphragm Rupture Hose Type?

I was just looking at my QJet carb and realized that, although it is a marine carb, I don't have an extra fitting for the fuel pump rupture hose. Do you think I can put a "T" in the line that goes to the choke diaphragm (see black hose on the left side of the pic) to connect the rupture line...

Fuel Pump Diaphragm Rupture Hose Type?

Fuel doesn't flow through that hose unless there is fuel pump failure and then it will cause the engine to die with too much fuel in the carb. I will see if I can find tygon tubing. I think ACE Hardware carries it.

Fuel Pump Diaphragm Rupture Hose Type?

I know that the main fuel line needs to be marine grade (which I bought) but what about the hose that runs from the fitting on the fuel pump to the carburetor in case of fuel pump leakage? Is there small diameter marine grade fuel hose or is it acceptable to just use automotive vacuum line...

    HGE Dry Joint Exhaust Manifolds

Good point... Thanks, will reseal them.. I will be doing a first start on this new engine on a run stand outside the boat too so that I can look for problems before installation.

    Shift shaft bushings

I haven't verified this yet but I watched an upper unit rebuild video where the guy said that the intermediate shift shaft bushing can cause binding in the shift shaft and that Mercruiser stopped putting it in because of the binding potential. Oh, just re-read the post and it said the upper...

    HGE Dry Joint Exhaust Manifolds

My 45 degree fittings came in today and went into the exhaust manifolds fine. I still had to put them in before mounting the manifolds as you can't screw them in without hitting the valve covers if the manifolds are already mounted. It looks like I can angle them enough to now get the hose on...

    Power Steering Pump Mounting?

My new pump arrived and it came with studs instead of bolts which is the way Mercruiser shows it. The pump went into the bracket with the studs in place so it appears that the used pump with the hydraulic tube up in the middle of the pump was causing it to not go into place. Thanks again for...

    Power Steering Pump Mounting?

Great, thanks MadProps and Flashback. Those are exactly what I needed. Looks like a combination of bolts and studs and the parts diagram appears to be incorrect. Looks like you have the stamped bracket with the support brace (in the front) that is shown in the parts diagrams as for the cast...
