    Power Steering Pump Mounting?

^**&#* Sorry gang, must be the covid brain fog. Be glad when it is over. Mine is high on the port side.

    1996 5.7 temp sender/temp sensor?

Are you sure both sensors are the same? Temp gauge uses a sensor that varies the signal directly with temperature change. Alarm system usually uses a sensor that is either an off or on switch depending upon temperature.

    Power Steering Pump Mounting?

Just trying to figure out the proper mounting into the stock Mercruiser bracket (bolts, studs, spacers, brace bracket??). It is high (above the alternator) on the starboard side with this bracket.

    Power Steering Pump Mounting?

Does anybody have some pictures that show how their power steering pump is mounted (5.7L with PS Pump high on starboard side)? I have two bracket sets (cast bracket 1988 to 1995 and stamped bracket 1996 to 2002). I want to use the stamped bracket as it looks to be a better bracket. However...

    HGE Dry Joint Exhaust Manifolds

So, problems so far on installing the HGE Dry Manifolds and Elbows. As described above, the water ports that must be used for full closed cooling need angled connectors (the ports get plugged if not full closed cooling so shouldn't be a problem on raw water cooled systems). It looks like 45...

1996 GM 5.7L Vortec Carb'ed and Thunderbolt IV Ignition Setup

So, guess I either pay the big bucks for TB V or go with the TB IV I already have and hope I don't get any detonation that I can't hear. The machine shop said my compression ratio should come out at 8.5 or 9 to 1 so I can run 87 octane pump gas. Premium here in Washington state is $4.25 a...

1996 GM 5.7L Vortec Carb'ed and Thunderbolt IV Ignition Setup

Does the Delco EST have a knock sensor input or is this a replacement for TB IV without it?

1996 GM 5.7L Vortec Carb'ed and Thunderbolt IV Ignition Setup

Is there such a thing as an after market TB V direct replacement ignition system?

    Anti Seize or Not?

Well, there are a lot of different opinions on the torque spec for the manifold bolts. I went with 25 ft-lb.

    HGE Dry Joint Exhaust Manifolds

Any idea where to get fittings like these (thread on one end but hose barb on the other end) but in 45 degrees? They are 1 inch pipe thread holes.

    Anti Seize or Not?

That's an interesting approach... Who woulda thought..

    Anti Seize or Not?

Great, thanks. I went with that and got the exhaust manifolds mounted today.

    HGE Dry Joint Exhaust Manifolds

Has anybody installed these on a Mercruiser 5.7L? If so, how did you resolve the problem of the upper exhaust manifold fitting being angled directly at the valve cover so that the water line hits the valve cover and won't go on?

    Anti Seize or Not?

I have some Permatex aviation gasket sealer which I believe is the same as Form a Gasket #3.

    Anti Seize or Not?

So, now that I have the fuel pump, water pump, starter and alternator all mounted, I need to mount the exhaust manifolds. I have seen some arguments that say aluminum/copper based anti seize should never be used in marine applications and that the marine anti seize won't stand up to the heat of...

    Starter Shims?? - 1996 5.7L

I went to the auto parts store and picked up standard 3/8-16 x 4.32 grade 8 starter bolts and it went together just fine. So, API Marine sent the wrong bolts with the starter.

    Starter Shims?? - 1996 5.7L

Thanks. I also just discovered that the bolts they sent say 8.8 on the end which means they are metric grade 8. I thought they screw in rather snug. They should be 3/8-16. I bought the starter some time ago so stuck with it. Going to get some regular 3/8-16 bolts but it will be a little...

    Starter Shims?? - 1996 5.7L

Well, you were right. The bolts are just a little too long even though they are new and came with the starter. In the picture you will see a dark ring where the knurl was hitting the threads in the block. When I took the starter off, I put the bolt back in without the starter until it stopped...

    Starter Shims?? - 1996 5.7L

Thanks, I think I will try the washers under the bolt heads first. These bolts were new and provided with the starter but that doesn't mean they will actually fit.
