    Mechanical Fuel Pump Arm Movement

No, this is just a cruising boat with some fishing to be done. I don't want to overpower Alpha One and, as set up, it should come in right about 300hp. I went with roller cam and lifters with the Xtreme Marine XM264HR cam. That gives a bit more lift.

    Starter Shims?? - 1996 5.7L

A few years back, car and truck starters were provided with shims that were used to align the starter teeth with the flywheel. I picked up a new API Marine PMGR starter (no shims provided) and installed it yesterday. However, the bolts (new ones came with the starter) get tight and there is...

    Mechanical Fuel Pump Arm Movement

Grub, I don't have an old one to compare. This is a scratch build from bare block. Scott, thanks for the info. I sure thought they used to move more than that but it may be my covid brain fog..... Be glad when I fully recover...

    Mechanical Fuel Pump Arm Movement

Granted the last manual fuel pump I installed was my old 73 Ford pickup but I am wondering about the travel in the fuel pump arm. In the old days the pump arm moved back and forth a good half to one inch. My new Carter marine fuel pump for this 5.7L only moves maybe a quarter to 3/8 inch, is...

Mercruiser 5.0 engine help for dummies

Sounds like you need to focus on one engine at a time which sounds like the 5.7L. Work with it until you either get it running, determine it needs major work, or it is completely toast. Remember that you need 1) spark, 2) fuel, 3) air, and 4) compression for the engine to run. You can...

Water Pump Question - Alpha 1 w/Closed Cooling

Forgot to come back and close this thread with an answer. Per Marine Power, their bracket does not fit on the opposite side so the hoses can't be run down the starboard side like the original seawater pump using their bracket and a crank mount pump.

    Mercruiser 5.0

I don't know about the one alldodge recommended but older users on here generally know by experience. I did a lot of research for my scratch build 5.7L GM and went with a Carter Fuel Pump (manual marine pump not the auto version). It's very solid and high quality built. For critical...

    Mercruiser 5.0

Just remember that you need a line from the fuel pump vent to a carb inlet in case it ruptures again so that the leaking fuel doesn't spray into your bilge but is fed back into the carburetor for safety.

1996 GM 5.7L Vortec Carb'ed and Thunderbolt IV Ignition Setup

Since I can't work on fiberglass with Covid (can't breathe well enough with the respirator), I am doing homework on the engine. Bringing up my older thread with a new question. I know that my machine shop said I should be able to run 87 pump gas but I am concerned no matter what I run, that...

Such a Thing As Making the Hull Too Rigid?

Great info gang. Thanks for all the input. I was hoping to have all my stringers in and much of the deck on by now since it is nice weather for working here this summer. Unfortunately, right after I posted, everything came to a screeching halt due to Covid-19. I am still recovering.

    Gas tank access panel

I am just debating the same question. My original floor was mounted over the tank using aluminum angle brackets but then had been fiberglassed over the whole floor making it not removeable.

Such a Thing As Making the Hull Too Rigid?

So, did I get it wrong by fully bedding all of the stringers with polyester peanut butter? Most of what I have seen on youtube etc has been to fully bed them.

    Floatation Foam in Closed Space

Additional question relative to the fill holes. How far apart do you typically drill them? For example, I have a cavity that is 52 inches long and15 inches wide. The height on the inside stringer side is about 10 inches and the on the outside stringer is about 4 inches. I understand the part...

    85 ciera 2550 galley replacement

Look for similar boats for sale that have a galley and check the pics out they typically post with them. I am updating my galley and dinette in my 22 foot and it helps to have pictures. Fortunately, I have all the "furniture" for the boat so just need to decide whether to "refinish" or...

Such a Thing As Making the Hull Too Rigid?

I am going from the factory work of somewhat randomly squirting in bedding for stringers with what appears to be a power caulking gun (if they had them in 76) then missing the bedding material so that almost all of the stringers were floating in foam with no fiberglass except on exterior...

Tube/Pipe for Routing Fuel Fill Line and Vent

Thanks for the info. I will go with 3 inch pvc conduit and long sweeps if possible for space. I am going with new fuel fill hose, new vent hose, new water line and new wiring so shouldn't have to change it way into the future. Wasn't sure if there are any regs relative to pvc in a boat.

Tube/Pipe for Routing Fuel Fill Line and Vent

Under my floor and foamed in place were two tubes like dryer vent line so that wires and the main fuel fill line can connect to the belly tank and the water tank (overnighter). Both of them were badly deteriorated so I need to replace them before I cover and floatation foam. One is 2 1/4 inch...
