    1987 5.7 omc outdrive

Get a genuine OMC service manual. That way you will know about the special tools that are needed. Most likely you just need to wash out the upper. Since all the “V” style engines use the same lower you should be able to locate a rebuilt or used unit. Sierra Marine has the seal kit for the...

Test stand running 70's 350 water hook up

That will work, you may want to just watch that the water coming out the manifolds is about the same on both sides. Pinching off the discharge hose on the top of the thermostat housing will do that. Use a Chevrolet service manual or the internet that shows how to adjust the valves without...

    Seawater Pickup

If you are going through the bottom of the boat you can also mount the through hull fitting in front of the engine. Just be sure the trailer boards will not interfere.

1” NPT pipe is plenty enough water supply. 1/14” I.D. hose will fit over it. Consider that in the drive there is a much smaller pipe which will deliver enough water for a sea water cooled 5.7 But as we know will not cool a fresh water cooled V style engine.

I would only use the scoop style, it has a grill that will keep out debris.

It does not matter If you do not mind the extra “Rooster Comb”. They are all suitable for the job. They can also be mounted through and on the underside of the trim plane. I had a 24’ Campbell once that was set up that way.

Remove quadrant gear and Stern leg is stuck in down position

When the drive is down does the steering go in both directions without a bind? Pump some grease into those fittings while the bolts are loose. I cannot imagine what would keep the drive from not being able to lift by hand with the quadrant gear removed.

    Seawater Pickup

Do not be afraid to go through the bottom with a valve. The one advantage is one less “rooster comb” behind the hull. The “Y” connection is a definite good move to keep the drive cool and also works with a flush out . Greco # TH 1000 Through hull 1” NPT pick up Groco # IBV 1000 valve The rest...

Remove quadrant gear and Stern leg is stuck in down position

Remove the rubber bumpers and just loosen each of the mounting bolts 1 turn. There is no way the ball gears can restrict the drive from coming off. With the bolts loose you should be able to shake the drive enough to remove the quadrant gear.

    1986 Volvo Penta B230 AQ125A engine wiring

Be sure that both carburetor throttle plates are synchronized. They run terrible off idle if they are not set. Those carburetors are easy to clean and most times the gaskets are re usable.

    1986 Volvo Penta B230 AQ125A engine wiring

If you have 2 carburetors then you have a 145. At this point you need to rebuild/clean the carburetors. To help with starting look at the solenoid and you will see a un used spade connection on the port side, make up a #16 ga, wire from the spade to the + side of the coil. Bayliner/ Volvo 4...

Remove quadrant gear and Stern leg is stuck in down position

No problem Southkogs, we are all trying to help Lovemy Seaswril out but nun of us being on the scene we are just giving suggestions to the best of our knowledge and experience. Another problem he is having is the tilt clutch holding. When they are in good condition I used to be able to check...

Remove quadrant gear and Stern leg is stuck in down position

Please read line #5 in post #3. The drive is not binding in the pivot caps. Tilt motors that are weak will run with out a load. The only other thing that could cause the problem is a bad electrical connection, I have even had a fuse that was causing the problem, it was testing good but was...

Remove quadrant gear and Stern leg is stuck in down position

According to post #3 the drive does in fact can be raised and lowered manually with the gear removed. If the boat was at my shop the tilt motor would have been changed by now. I wrestled with those things for over 30 years.

1988 GM 5.7 stalling when slowing down

If everything else is not causing the problem what you are describing then it could be possible the rotor gets hot in the distributor and is going to ground. When the boat is coming off of plane it loads the ignition more than when it is on plane. Get an extra rotor and see if that helps.
