    4.3 Carb v 4.3MPI

Scot06 interpreted my mess correctly. I would always prefer the higher horsepower and happy with a carb engine over MPI BUT they don't offer a carb 350 just 5.0 tks or 5.0 mpi, sooooo I would take the 5.0 mpi. Actually the Searay 205 was offered with 3 engines the 4.3 MPI, the 5.0 TKS, the 5.0...

    4.3 Carb v 4.3MPI

My take is the MPI engines are very repeatable and friendly when they work correctly, which most of the time the do. My opinion is I would take a 5.0 TKS over a 4.3 MPI. I would also take a 5.7L carb over a 5.0 mph. Problem is they never offer those options its either 4.3 tks or 4.3 mpi

2001 Sea Ray 210 Sticking in gear

Seams like shift interrupter switch. when you shift the shift cable translates force to a switch that instaneously kills the engine to take the load off the outdrive gears and makes it easy to shift. A bad shift cable will usually cause the engine to stall when shifting gears.

    Leak from "Lower/upper shoe"??? HELP!

A first timer that is mechanically inclined doing this job 8 solid hours or 16 hours total. I did seal replacement on an alpha 1 and studied the manual many times before I started. In my opinion you have zero chance without a manual. For example. you can't even split the drives if you do not...

Mercruiser 5.0 MPI #3 cylinder ignition miss

Please don't take my questions as "pointed". I ask/challenge here because of the experience of the members. I always wonder why "boats" deserve shorter maintenance intervals. When I say boats I am referring to mine which is only outside when used and stored in enclosed storage. Thanks again...

Mercruiser 5.0 MPI #3 cylinder ignition miss

255 hours at 70 mph is 17,850 miles on my ignition components worse case scenario for a car with the same hours as my boat. Is this 1965? where tune are required annually? I wish it was 1965 I would not have $3K in cat manifolds on my boat and I could see the Doors.

Mercruiser 5.0 MPI #3 cylinder ignition miss

I found an interesting video on YouTube on these crab style caps. It appears overtime due to the close proximity of the conductors in the cap and at times porosity in the "plastic' they will jump terminals internally. I pretty sure its the cap as I saw more than one post (GM cars/trucks) with...

Mercruiser 5.0 MPI #3 cylinder ignition miss

I not a proponent of changing parts. That why I spent $600 on a Rinda. All other cylinders look perfect, only #3 shows misfires. Plugs, cap, wires total about $325. I probably swap plugs with another cylinder. Plug about $8 but that still hurts. I wasted 90 minutes changing a perfectly...

    One manifold hot (5.0)

Being an older engine I bet your thermostat is 140F. 140F is key to preventing crystallization of the salt on engine internals. New fuel injected engines like to run 160F. I had a 1988 Mercruiser 3.0 liter in salt water its entire life. Saw it last week out in Galveston bay. Original engine...

Hello, My Rinda indicates #3 cylinder misfire (2011 5.0 MPI with 255 hrs). I get about 100 misses in 3 minute? No code but I can feel it. I checked plug wire for resistance it appeared good. I will order a new plug, but my question is what is the best distributor cap to buy. I hear the...

Yes I replaced it before #47 with no change. #47 definelty improved the situation. I have a clear hose on the seawater pump discharge and I don't see any bubbles. Its hard to watch the clear hoses when you are driving but tomorrow I have a buddy going with me so he can drive while I watch...

HELP!! 2001 Volvo Penta SX running hot

Yes I replaced 47 and seals and that eliminated the problem with it overheating once on a plane. Before I replaced it I would overheat at 3K rpms while on plane now I can run all day at 3k rpm. I am starting to think I may have a blown head gasket, cracked head or block and that what causing...

I can run all day at 3000 rpm with at 160F before i replaced the fitting I could not get on plane without overheating. Now my issue is at 3500rpm and higher temperature slowly climbs to 190F and...

HELP!! 2001 Volvo Penta SX running hot

Well this is officially old. I went ahead and replaced seawater pump with brand new factory assembled unit. So everything is new. Idle temp came back down to 160F at idle, that was a win, at 3K rpm still 160F, 4800 rpm climbs to 190F where I shut it down. EVERYTHING is new. I can't wait to...

I wouldn’t give a rat ass and would drive without a plate fora trip. Just have paperwork on sale. On flip side temporary tags are very cheap.
