So I had success in replacing the water pick up tube seals in lower outdrive. Ran like a scolded ape on plane off plane for 15 minutes. gauge at 160F. I thought problem solved. I did a high speed pass and temp climbed to 190F and I brought to idle and temp cam down to 160F. Now I have the...

I pressurized from pump suction back to outdrive with garden hose and didn't see at leak transom fitting. How fun to look behind the engine, lol. Tomorrow I will drop lower half and replace seals, why not, its a tradition with this boat to replace everything. On a side note ran like crap...

HELP!! 2001 Volvo Penta SX running hot

I noticed with the ear muffs on hose on engine off water drips out of the 4 little holes near the cavitation plate. Is this normal, or should water only drip out the holes when engine running?

HELP!! 2001 Volvo Penta SX running hot

Ok guys 2001 Volvo Penta 5.7 liter. Boat starts to overheat as soon as I get on a plane, idling and revving in neutral to 3000rpm in water and temp stays at 160F. As I get on a plane the temp climbs to 180F then I back off let it get off plane and it cools back to 160F. If I don't back off it...

    Steel Caps or Bearing Buddys?

I sold on buddy bearings if hub is 100% full (let flames begin). the bearing buddies have a relief port, if you pump to much its squirts out. I loathe taking a hub apart and finding perfect grease and bearings, so i dont take them apart anymore... DO NOT BUY AFTERMARKET KNOCK OFF BRAND, just...

    Shorelander Trail Brakes seized.

I cancelled my aluminum and went with the stainless steel. Thanks for the head-ups on dissimilar material!!!!!. That hit home. How the hell won't the aluminum corrode where the stainless piston extends past the seal? the piston is exposed to salt water. the rubber boot didn't prevent...

Just bought this pontoon from dealer, got home with no straps on back !

Just an FYI. If the load falls off ANY trailer (boat or cargo) it is not covered by your liability insurance. You alone are responsible. If the load falls off as a result of an accident it is covered. But the second before the accident the load better be on the trailer..... I bought a...

    Shorelander Trail Brakes seized.

Mine are UFP -DB-35. Are the mounting holes standard for all calipers? In other words will the Kodiak bolt up. So glavenized UFP -$256, Aluminuim $300, stainless steel $525 per pair.

    Shorelander Trail Brakes seized.

My 2017 galvanized shorelander trailer starboard brake seized. I guess at 5 years the salt water got to it even though religiously flushed after each use. Funny I used trailer a month ago and no issues, didn't even put boat in water. This Saturday I smelled brakes, within 3 miles the heat...

2002 volvo penta 5.7 Liter idles but stalls when throttling up

2002 volvo penta 5.7 Liter idles but stalls when throttling up

it is the Holley 2 barrel. He said there was zero change. Boat engine was replaced. New distributor (MSD) and carb put back on and never touched. then once it died when trying to rev he "rebuilt" carb found crap in jets. That what is surprising is he said zero change. You would think with...

Mercruiser Catalyst Manifolds are Lifetime / No replacement necessary

Sorry for the late response. I wouldn't replace the elbows until they restrict water flow leading to high engine temps which could be decades. You have no risk as far as corroding through to combustion side. I busted mine apart and even thought the bottom 1/3 was rotted off in the aluminum...

2002 volvo penta 5.7 Liter idles but stalls when throttling up

Trying to help a buddy. He has a 5.7 idles good but as soon as you throttle up, in water or on ear muffs engine just dies. Carburator was rebuilt and had zero affect. Is it possible timing is off? Any ideal appreciated.

Is my coupler off ? looks like it and drive won't go back in ..

when people say adjust they are talking 1 turn or 1/2 turn at a time. Really helps to have two people one outside and one adjusting. It took me 3 hours and magically it just slid in perfectly. 3 year later it still just slides in and out with no effort so once you get it, its got....

Mercruiser Catalyst Manifolds are Lifetime / No replacement necessary

Thanks!!! I never knew risers and elbows were different, thought same part. On the catalyst engines there are no risers. Elbows come in different "lengths/heights". I busted my elbow apart with sledge hammer to inspect the water jacket thickness. Tons of inner wall left, some plugging. I...

Mercruiser Catalyst Manifolds are Lifetime / No replacement necessary

Mercruiser product manual says for corrosion protection EDP coated manifolds and dry-joint risers. Soooooo does that mean the risers are EDP coated and are dry joint or just dry joint. My guess is just dry joint as my risers has extensive corrosion at the discharge which is irrelevant. If...
