    Too close for comfort!

Yeah, the whales were everywhere that morning! I took my sister and daughter out the next morning and it was a repeat of the same show. Unfortunately their video's didn't turn out as good. As you can see, we were really close to shore too.

    Too close for comfort!

Try this link to a video my wife made while we were out fishing a couple of weeks ago.....

    Salt Away?

I think its not salt or aluminum oxide. I think its calcium carbonate (lime scale) It builds up in things that caontain hot water because calcium is less soluble in hot water then in cold. I get a lot of it in my hot water tank. I read one post on another site where ironically it turned out the...

    Too windy?

Just wondering what people consider too windy for boating. I know it depends on a lot of factors such as boat size and water body size, etc. Right now I'm not out fishing today and yesterday because of winds approx 30kms gusting to about 40/45km. It would be possible to go out in that wind but...

    Transom saver

I was going to mention the transducer as well. It aimed off to the side instead of straight down. I know nothing about transom savers unfortunately.

Water in Bilge? Where can it come from.......

I had a similar problem, turned out to be the rubber pipe that lets the hot water and exhaust go from the engine to the outdrive. It had a small crack in it. I wrapped duct tape around it and it held for years until i got rid of the motor.

    '90 Maxum 2100SR - restoration & conversion

It could be possible that the water in your oil came from your exhaust manifold. If its cracked on the outside there could be a crack inside too, letting water into the cylinders thru the exhaust valves. I had that issue at one time.

1981 Sportcraft 270 repair underway - transom, stringers, & repower

If you are real careful you may get a few uses out of one. I just used the same old cloths and then discarded them when they got too bad or my wife would no longer let me put them in the washer! I eventually gave up on the tyvek suits because they don't last.

Trim clicks, but working less and less each day.

If the solinoid is clicking then its probably working. May be the actual trim motor itself. Use a voltmeter to see if its getting voltage even when its not working. That should tell the tale. I took apart a trim motor that wasn't working a few years ago and discovered that the flexable wire...

1987 Power Play XLT-185 - floors, stringers, and upholstery

I recently placed a similar drain in the middle of my floor towards the back against the structure for the splashwell. Works good enough except when the boat is stored on uneven ground at a tilt. Then water tends to pool in whatever corner is lower. If I had my time back I would have put a...

Captains Chair On Teak How Is It Attached

Not sure what held them in place, but I doubt it was just silicon. Ive had pedistals pull fairly large screws out of plywood floors. Would there have been nots and washers that dropped down out of place after you took out the bolts?

Why not use smart bulbs and leave the switches as they are? Up here I can get a set of 3 bulbs at Costco for about $27 CAD. Likely cheaper down your way....

Such a Thing As Making the Hull Too Rigid?

For what its worth, my old stringers looked to be bedded in PB and then encased in glass. It was in my opinion a very well built boat. I redid it the same way. Some people put small pieces of foam at spaced intervals under the stringers but I don't see the point if all the space between the foam...

1981 Sportcraft 270 repair underway - transom, stringers, & repower

Whatever cloths you wear, if you don't wear a tyvek suit over it, you might as well throw out after your done. Washing doesn't get all the itchy dust out and they will drive you nuts everytime you wear them! Don't make the mistake of thinking you'll do some grinding in your garage on a rainy day...

    1992 Rinker Captiva 186

Are you sure you even need to remove the cap? I just finished tearing out and replaceing the transom, floor and stringers with the cap on and the boat on a roller trailer. No issues if you can get good access to the tansom.

Any tips on repairing a 1973 MFG Gypsy 14

I would be VERY suspicious of that transom being good. If everything else is bad then almost guaranteed the transom is too. Make sure the engine is good and you know what you are getting into before you start spending money. Old boats can be a real money sinkhole!
