1973 18 hp evinrude Driver Coil test

^^agree. On the needle setting, I would tweak it clockwise 1/8 turn at a time, waiting briefly for the engine to respond. Repeat until the engine stalls or lean sneezes, then back the needle out about 1/4 turn. Should be about right. Sounds pretty close. Might be time for a fuel pump...

Think I would replace the wires as well (7mm with wire core).

Have a j8renm. It had beem sitting for a few years.

I would take a look at the plugs, and likely clean them up with some carb cleaner, then regap to .030 (likely). I like to use an emory board to shine the contact points as well. As you tune the engine, you are likely to mess up the plugs some, and could either repeat the above process, or...

1963 10hp Johnson QD-24 Flywheel rotating the mag plate

Got to get back to the other puller, though. I use a steering wheel puller. Stainless bolts are best, but might be your technique (no offense intended). Make sure the bolts are even in the puller, and bottom out in the flywheel. Tighten down the center bolt and whack it with a 2 lb sledge...

    Johnson 20R71S 20 HP

Well heck, I'll argue a little. Install a new impeller, and drain the gearcase. While the l.u. is off, pressure test the gearcase with 5 or 6 lbs of pressure. Check for leaks with some soapy water in a spray bottle. Repair as needed. Get an open air spark tester (cheap at an auto parts...

1963 10hp Johnson QD-24 Flywheel rotating the mag plate

In addition, some parts diagrams show them upside down, or appear to show them that way. I would pull the flywheel again and check the coil placements -- run a fingernail vertically along the mounting surface and the coil lamination (should be perfectly smooth). You might also lay the flywheel...

    92 johnson 90 hp problem

Need water pump service -- change the impeller (running on muffs is not a good test). Power pack is a good guess, and subject to damage from overheating. Additionally, there is a water-cooled regulator that can actually flame out if the water level in powerhead drops.

Have a j8renm. It had beem sitting for a few years.

I would check online for a couple of cheap fuel pumps -- need a fresh one either new or one you have rebuilt. What about the water pump? Should replace the impeller, then repeat every three years or so (depends on use -- river sand chews them up, for example).

    1978 Johnson 70HP head scratcher

dang. That's a lot of heat. Did you change out the impeller, and are you monitoring operating temperature? (top of the head -- too hot to touch is too hot to run). I would pull off the head again and resurface it -- wet/dry paper on a flat surface. Figure 8s until equal shine all around.

1973 18 hp evinrude Driver Coil test

Why don't you put a couple of 2 by 4s or a large paving stone underneath that bucket (raise the water level on the motor) -- and don't race the motor! Not sure why there is an issue with condensers. Plug gap should be .030 -- Champions the best bet for your Evinrude, but differences of...

    What’s a good good polish ?

If you do some refinishing, you are probably familiar with clear coats. Best to test on the leg if not sure of compatibility. Obviously a more durable shine than waxes.

    What’s a good good polish ?

Armor All, McGuires, etc. Works fine. For removing greasy fingerprints, try WD-40.

If cranking, use an adjustable spark tester to measure spark, however faint. Clean points with a piece of cardboard (match book cover is good) wetted with acetone or similar. Set to .020 unless manual calls for something different.

    What’s a good good polish ?

I use mineral spirits to clean painted surfaces. For a quick polish, use tire spray. For touch up paint, try Mercedes Diamond Blue (Tempo rattle can, I think.)

1957 Evinrude Lark 35hp low speed knob

^agree. Just loose enough that you can rotate the needle -- too loose will let the needle change location with vibrations.
