How to change oil with a rusted dipstick?

I have a relatively cheap vacuum suction unit that came with a plastic tube long enough and small enough to slide into the dipstick tube.

Getting the water out of the block after a sea trial?

I do it all the time. I pull out of the water, and this time of year I'm the only one there usually, so I just stop when I'm 6 feet above the water on the ramp. I pull the bilge drain plug, then I pull all 5 drain plugs from the motor and the lower water pump hose off. If needed I probe around...

    Alpha One Bearing Carrier Question

At least you're not going where no man has gone before. However, it is a place I've never been. What a mess of dated information to trudge through.

1986 Alpha One has leaked oil since service....

At least the Alpha 1 is pretty simple to replace most any of the seals. Build yourself a pressure tester. Drain all the oil and pressure test. Spray soapy water on each of the seals.

Fuel tank to engine hose routing

I was thinking the same thing. Not your average plastic barge.

Fuel tank to engine hose routing

Make your own custom sweeps with fewer connectors by using a propane torch or heat gun to heat the corlon enough to bend it. Try a piece out before. The torch will discolor the surface if you get the flame close on the plastic, but doesn't hurt the strength. Take your time heating and it won't...

    1990 larson all american 195 4.3 confusion

The HEI is not going to have the right advance curve for a boat and besides, is not safe in a boat. Taking this to the next step, also need to look and see how the shift interrupt switch was wired to the HEI. May be some of that extra wiring and the shift interrupt got deleted. That wouldn't be...

Mercruiser 4.3L pushes 2400# runabout only 36mph max

I've got a 2800 pound v hull that with a plain jane 4.3L Vortec and an el cheapo 21 pitch 4 blade Solas that I get right up to touch 48 MPH at 4800 RPM. If I stuck a 3 blade that was properly chosen for top speed I'd bet 51 or 52 MPH. I never run up there, so I don't care much My cruise is 36...

    running I/O when cold

I run mine during freezing times occasionally. I then immediately pull all the plugs and the water pump hose off at the bottom. Dry motors don't freeze. Make sure the drive is down and the little drain holes are open as well.

Matters not at all. Not a high strength or torque application.

1986 Alpha One has leaked oil since service....

Might just be the little bit of oil, usually less than an ounce, that leaks down the shaft between upper and lower when the cases are split. No way to drain that oil out and it coats everything in the water passage unless wiped off at the time. I'd put fresh cardboard down and see if the issue...

Removing remnants of elbow to manifold gasket on still attached manifold

Using a gasket scraper you can mostly get it to fall off the side. I end with a large file to make sure the surface is flat. Probably best to keep big pieces out, but small stuff will flow right out the exhaust.
