My First StarCraft; 1975 18' SuperSport

Man, you do the greatest work! Questions if I may; 1) do you wait until the epoxy plugs set and install screws, or are you casting in threaded studs while wet? I can’t tell by the photo. 2) where did you get the hold down from, I don’t want to use a battery box either Thanks

Shoestring Starcraft SS160 Resto-mod - let the long slow road begin

I’m going to pick up another batch and do the entire ribs. The ribs look like they’re tight but there’s actually a slight gap. I’ll try the heat gun approach this time to thin it out and get it too creep under. I’m also going to flip it and do the g flex instead of coat it. Thanks to whomever...

Where do I belong? Alum Goods 1687, SS16 Clone?

I bet it makes a difference. I have a 4 panel wooden roll up door. I screwed styrofoam am to it. Going on 20 years

Where do I belong? Alum Goods 1687, SS16 Clone?

Doors insulated? If not clad the inside with styrofoam SM. I don’t think a 230v electric will keep that size very warm. I’m 21x15. If you have the power in the panel, you could add a second heater, but for the cost, you may still be better off with a hot dawg or small gas shop heater. I’m sure...

Where do I belong? Alum Goods 1687, SS16 Clone?

FYI those can really bake you out depending on your shop configuration. If it is a garage, you might want to consider a hot dawg instead? I have a 1.5 car garage. Insulated. I use a 230 V sharp heater that has a wall/ceiling mount. Thermostat. Turns down To about 7° on its lowest setting...

Leak testing an empty aluminum hull?

I can fill in for one lol. I think I’m out of time. Today was supposed to be 7 Celsius (44deg) but the wind was fierce out of the north with very unpredictable weather. It rained, snowed, ice pellets...bah Might have to do the best I can and have faith. I’m actually considering flipping it...

Anyone have a Super Sport with a ski locker?

That is excellent. Thank you very much for the photographs. I think on my boat it’s going to be much shallower. Especially towards the stern. Which is why I was concerned that water would build in this area. Is that flooring nautolex? Looks like a nice job

Anyone have a Super Sport with a ski locker?

I’m getting close to putting floors back in to my SS. Does anyone here have a 16 or 18’ one with a ski locker? I’m contemplating adding a rod locker that has pvc pipe tubes running under the floor (to the bow) My questions are for those who have ski lockers or who have built rod lockers in...

Shoestring Starcraft SS160 Resto-mod - let the long slow road begin

I suspect it was coming from the random areas where the Gluvit ran off the rib flanges to the hull. I should get a flashlight and double check this. I figure it is this because the Gluvit was thick and not able to seep under the ribs, I didn’t see the need to coat along the entire flange. I...

Leak testing an empty aluminum hull?

Thanks. I think I will bring the batteries and gas cans to help weigh it down.

Leak testing an empty aluminum hull?

Hey guys, I’ve just finished replacing rivets on my 16’ aluminum runabout and it was suggested to me that there isn’t enough weight in the bare hull to weigh it down enough to properly leak test it before I put the floors in it. Any suggestions? I was thinking about leaving the trailer...

1975 Starcraft SS 16' Freshen Up

That looks great! One of my favourite SS mods I’ve seen so far. I hope you don’t mind if I copy this idea. Actually, would you mind sharing where you got the ladder/loop assembly? Or do you recall the manufacturers name?

    1979 Starcraft 16’ SS Refresh

Looks great. Plenty of clearance after all! When I ordered from ken cook, I had my manuals in 2 days. While that might not be impressive in itself, add the fact that I am in Canada. They must be used to catering to mechanics that need very fast service. Part of what you pay for I guess

    1979 Starcraft 16’ SS Refresh

I bought a multi model Seloc for my old 650 merc and I was frustrated and left wanting more info. I recently bought original evinrude/Johnson factory service manuals for my 60 and 50hp and I think they are much more informative with better photos. I will always buy factory manuals now. You can...

Shoestring Starcraft SS160 Resto-mod - let the long slow road begin

Another coat of Gluvit tonight on a few places I missed and some areas I wanted to hit again. I noticed some sharp cracking sounds while walking around. I have to assume that this is the coating where the hull meets the rib flange and the flex is allowing the coating to crack. Not too...
