Nautolex Vinyl on Deck - Aluminum Hull

I've laid mine in one piece after countersinking the rivet deck fasteners and filling the countersink with 3M5200 or some other sealant/filler to keep a smooth surface. I have done it without countersinking as well, and although you can feel the bumps of the rivet heads under the Nautolex, it's...

    New Journey

Had some nice(er) weather last week with temps above freezing, so I pulled the hull out onto the driveway, gave her a nice vinegar bath, and rinsed her with the pressure washer. Now hovering around 0 degrees here in MN, so she's back in the garage with the heat up to 65 waiitng for the 1st...

Where do I belong? Alum Goods 1687, SS16 Clone?

I personally wouldn't worry too much about the rib ends with that small of a difference. The plywood decking will flex a bit and get pulled tight with the rivets. Might have even been done intentionally to shed water and prevent standing water from pooling in the center of the deck??

Shoestring Starcraft SS160 Resto-mod - let the long slow road begin

I've used the Duralux Aluminum Boat Paint with great results on bare aluminum. I believe the AlumaHawk is a very similar product. The Duralux is only available in the olive drab green, whereas the AlumaHawk is available in a light grey, black, blue, green , tan, and white. It's a matte or...

You'll need to remove your gunnels, fold up the ends, or cut the ends in order to slide in the new transom.

    1987 Starcraft islander 190v?

Yep, stainless brush and/or nylox brush on a drill or grinder, dremel for more detailed work. Hit the areas with 50/50 vinegar/water spray, let sit for a bit and rinse thoroughly. Once they're all clean out and the corrosion is removed, you can assess how best to address them. Will they need...

    1987 Starcraft islander 190v?

The stringers run fore/aft on top of the ribs to support the deck. The ribs run port/starboard and are secured directly to the hull skin. The system as a whole when secured together along with the side panels, splashwell, gunnels, etc., are engineered to provide structural stability to the...

    1987 Starcraft islander 190v?

Those are the ribs, and yes, secured with solids. The stringers are what support the deck and typically secured with blinds. Whole different ball game removing the ribs, but if the corrosion is needing to be addressed, there are several here that have tackled it before.

    1987 Starcraft islander 190v?

Not very difficult or time consuming to drill out the rivets and reinstall after addressing the corrosion. Well worth it in my opinion.

    1987 Starcraft islander 190v?

The stringers are usually attached to the tops of the ribs. I always remove them as the rivets are generally loose and need some attention anyhow.

    1978 Supersport 18

I've used the storm grey Nautolex on two different boats and will be using it again on my current build. I do not feel it gets too hot. I've had thoughts about using the black at times, but shy away from it due to the heat concerns. Stick with a light color and I think you'll be fine.

1973 Starcraft SuperSport 16ft. restoration questions

I did not find the need to cover it with plastic. This was the current version on the shelves at the local HD and Menards. The spray seemed to work a little faster, but I was also using it on what was likely a thinner layer of paint (inside of center console). I found around 45 minutes to be...

    New Journey

I have officially completed the removal of all paint from every last piece of this build. It's a good feeling to put away the stripper and know that tedious and somewhat messy task is behind me. From the outside/inside hull, splashwell, aft side panels, aft splashwell panels, side supports...

1973 Starcraft SuperSport 16ft. restoration questions

I used that stripper on my previous boats and it work fantastic before they changed the formula and removed the methylene chloride. I just finished the last of the paint removal from all parts of my current MR180 rebuild and used the Citristrip this time around. I was pleasantly surprised how...
