Can not stop wanting a Butterball Turkey.

This ^ The USDA guidelines that often are most often cited list the momentary temp needed to kill harmful bacteria, but holding the meat at a lower temperature for a longer period of time has exactly the same effect and helps avoid dry meat. (It's also one of the best reasons to cook chicken...

Can not stop wanting a Butterball Turkey.

Best turkey white meat I've ever had is from wet-brining a turkey breast for 36-48 hours in a simple salt solution. I remove the spine, then inject the breast meat with canola oil (yes, canola oil) and smoking at 225 F for 3-4 hours until internal temp hits 145F. Then wrap with foil and keep in...

Wondering how much my latest boat weighs.

The pour-in expanding foam that most of us have used is a closed-cell urethane foam. It not only provides flotation while adding very little weight, but it also adds rigidity to the hull and sound dampening. The problem with wet foam (and rotten wood stringers, bulkheads and transom cores)...

Re-post of Boomyal's Brined Turkey Recipe!

I have a 14 lb turkey and two 6.5 lb turkey breasts brining in a simple salt&water solution. The turkey will get roasted in the oven and the two breast will be smoked. Something for everyone!

    One more old Boat Rescue

Are you sure, Scott? My spreadsheet showed I paid $125 for a 5 gallon pail of 435 laminating poly resin from US Composites in 2013. Their price now for the same is $178. I don't know what the special shipping fee is these days, compared to before, though.

    One more old Boat Rescue

Looks like you know what you're doing! I just looked at my records from 2013, and poly resin is 30-40% more expensive today than what it was 10 years ago. I suspect other materials will also be more expensive, so you might want to adjust your budget.

    Best slip on shoes?

Actually, the stuff I saw about the changed sizing came from runner’s forums. I don’t think everybody’s feet suddenly got wider…

I'm going to try them, too.

    Best slip on shoes?

Do you know how the Restore TCs compare in sizing to Hoka's other models? I wear Hoka Bondis all the time and recently I had to switch to a wide model because they changed their sizing and the regular sized models became too tight. I have bad knees and have worn Hokas for years, before Deckers...

    Replacing transom foam seal

3M Adhesive Remover is great for removing sticky residue. I’d never reuse that foam gasket, either. Why risk all that work to save a few bucks?

    Removing transom bolts Gen 2

And I'd be prepared to give it several cycles of heating and then cooling down. Since the housing is aluminum, it should move much more than the studs.

Suggestions on how to fill my onboard gas tank?

If it were me, I'd just add the oil to the tank before filling at the gas station and let the road agitation do the rest. Modern 2-cycle oils seem much easier to mix than in olden days.

Does Anyone Know Any Halloween Songs?

Not really a Halloween song, but Alice Cooper’s Black Widow is pretty good, especially with the spoken intro by Vincent Price/

Make sure you thread is UV-resistant. We had some upholstery repairs done and the shop didn’t use UV-safe thread and now our seams are splitting.

    Marine or Auto oil pan

When I had my engine out of the boat, the stupidest thing I did was listen to people who advised against putting a drain hose on the oil pan. Every year when I'm fiddling around with sucking the oil out via the dipstick, I think of how much easier it would be to just pull a hose out of the...

    The End

Winterized the boat this weekend. As I get older, it’s getting harder and harder to do this myself. Even after adding draining plugs to the PS cooler and the large water pump hose, draining the block- and getting the plugs back in - is getting harder and harder. I don’t like the looks of an...
