Pressure treated plywood in aluminum boat

Others will hopefully chime in, but I think it works fine on surfaces that are to be carpeted with contact cement or glue. If you're really concerned, you can use straight polyurethane as a top coat. That will dry hard for sure. Just be sure to give it a good 72 hours or more to soak in and cure.

Pressure treated plywood in aluminum boat

If you are not planning to encapsulate the wood with fiberglass cloth, poly resin by itself might not be your best choice. When used on wood alone, it is prone to cracking. A better choice might be to treat the wood heavily with Old Timer's Wood Sealer (see here for formula...

    Boat Cover Supports

We supplement our poles with inflatable swimming rings that we wedge under the cover in the spots where water pools. It works pretty well on our small boat. Without the swim rings, we'd always have water pooling.

When do you pull your freshwater boat?

Personally, I'd be more worried about winterizing the engine correctly than whether the gas tank is full, empty or somewhere in between. I bet if you polled a large number of boaters, you'd find people are all of the map on this issue and despite their varied winter gas routines, the vast...

    1989 Formula 26PC Twin Mercruiser 4.3LX, Alpha I, Gen 1 - Water Leak at/in Transom Assy

Terrible idea to fill your boat with water. Not only will water get in all sorts of places where it should not be, but the water in your boat will not represent the same pressure against whatever it is that’s leaking when the boat is floating. Bad, worthless advice.

    Covering Built-in Fuel Tank?

When I did my boat, I glassed over the tank put in a round access port to get at the sender, etc. I figured if I really needed to get the tank out, I was probably facing a pretty big job and I'd just cut the deck to get at the tank. I'd rather limit the places where water can get under deck than...

    Photo dilemma

That's a terrible idea. One of the greatest resources on iboats are the threads documenting restorations. If photos are deleted after a period of time, those threads become worthless. Restoration threads without photos are not nearly as useful to folks wanting to fix a similar boat.

    Favorite motor flushers?

I've used these since I got my boat, too. They've worked great for me... except when there has been operator error...

Blue Sea Add A Battery query

One thing to consider when wiring your bilge pump to the starting battery: if your bilge pump is the sensor type, which senses the presences of water electronically, it can put a major drain on your start battery (which is not good, of course). If your pump has a float valve, there is less...

    tahoe 1950 trailer guide pole

The poles are mainly useful as a visual indicator of where the trailer is, which can be helpful if you have trouble seeing the trailer when backing up or when trying to load the boat. But they are not so good for guiding the boat onto the trailer; their brackets bend pretty easily if the boat...

    Coast Guard Requirements

We get checked coming off the river (Mississippi or Illinois) by conservation police about once a season. I appreciate it; one time the officer noticed my fire extinguisher needed to be replaced, something I had missed.

Can the base of engine work? Two to bolts under engine are rusted and can

Could be a hole in the bellows or a bad seal of the bellows to the places it attaches to the boat. Could be a bad transom gasket or one that was improperly installed. I'd be checking the bellows.

    Process for changing boat trailers?

I launch at a lake with a very shallow natural beach/ramp. I also have bunk trailer. If the water is low, I use a hitch extension (even 24" makes a huge difference), but I only add the extension right before I launch the boat. I also have found that if I get up a bit of speed while backing up...

Why is finding information on boats so difficult?

@NorinRadd , if you put the type of boat and the serial numbers for your engine and drive (assuming an I/O) in your signature, it will make it very easy for people to help you find answers to your questions. Nothing bad will happen if you post that info publicly and there are many folks here who...

Time for my first bellow change, tips?

Don’t do it. Get OEM parts. Nobody has ever finished a bellows job and regretted using OEM parts. That cannot be said for aftermarket brands…
