1987 Power Play XLT-185 - floors, stringers, and upholstery

I got in a small buffing session tonight before the rain hit, so I went in the garage and finished the step treads by drilling and countersinking the holes, then oiling them.

Burned valve or worse 1997 5.7 LX

Looks like the Hardin Marine plate is just temporarily out of stock...it says you can order it but that it won't ship until the 6th...you'd just have to wait a few days...not that long. Haven't done any AFR tuning on a boat, but on a car...it's definitely the way to get fuel dialed in.

1987 Power Play XLT-185 - floors, stringers, and upholstery

Can't find any teak locally so I'm just going to replace the worn wood trim pieces with mahogany. Tonight I made new step treads for both sides of the cap. The originals were too thin/worn to survive a trip through the planer. I still need to drill the screw holes and oil the wood. Here's a...

    Screw and Pilot Hole Sizes

Hold the drill bit in front of the screw and look at it. I like the drill bit to cover the minor thread diameter, but still be able to see the threads out past the drill bit. The more the drill bit covers the threads, the easier it will be to install, but the less bite you'll get.

    Thru hull exhaust

If you need tight bends, Pegasus Racing offers a 4" stainless "donut" mandrel bend. It's got a 4" bend radius - that's as tight as you're going to get without doing pie cuts.

    Weep hole in ski locker

The hole that lets the ski locker drain into the bilge? Or another weep hole? My boat originally did not have a drain hole to the bilge in it, but I added one when I rebuilt it. I would be weary of just drilling a hole...it will be a path for rot to start if you drill into the wooden stringer...

1987 Power Play XLT-185 - floors, stringers, and upholstery

Thanks...and yes, I definitely will be wet sanding on the hull to eliminate both ghost stripe and phantom Eventus. It seems easy to get down the rabbit hole of trying to make the whole thing look perfect though, and I would definitely not get it on the water this year if I chased that rabbit.

1987 Power Play XLT-185 - floors, stringers, and upholstery

I spent some time this weekend pulling the steering cable, shift cable/remote, and wiring harness out of the cap. I also pulled all the hardware off the back half so I could wet sand and buff. I've still got to pull the dash and windshield. I spent some time wet sanding through different...

Alpha One Gen 1- Reassembly bellows questions...

Sorry, not sure - I also attached it to the bellhousing first.

    1998 Bayliner Capri floor.

Not sure what brand out-drive you're using, but my Mercruiser Alpha One required drilling the holes at the same angle as the transom - not parallel to the ground. I drilled my holes to 1/2", which is a little bit bigger than the studs, so there is a small amount of wiggle room.

    Transom replacement

I cut my pieces out separately and then glued together. Hit the edges with a belt sander after curing to even up the minor differences. You can use a notched trowel to help get an even spread of adhesive. I bought a plastic one on Amazon for about $5 and it worked great.

    Help understanding fiberglass boat construction

Post some pictures. My hull (1987 Power Play) did not have anything but fiberglass on the bottom of the bilge...other than a mahogany block that was glassed in for attaching the bilge pump to. Might be plywood or end-grain balsa core...or something else?

Just acquired a 170 Horizon. Assembly required.

Curious which forums you were looking in. I'm a Honda guy through and through, and run a catch can on my high HP Honda.

1969 Mako cut and gut project by Lectro88

Same - I haven't used a fin roller at all. Between a 2" chip brush and a 4" mohair nap roller, I've been able to lay all the glass on my boat, nearly bubble free.

1987 Power Play XLT-185 - floors, stringers, and upholstery

Never been a body guy so this will be my first time wet sanding and buffing. I'm being timid at first and this was about 10 minutes of playing around with a new-to-me process. What you see here is a larger (~2x2) area that I wet sanded with 800 grit. The smaller area in the upper right I hit...

1987 Power Play XLT-185 - floors, stringers, and upholstery

Ugh, I guess I'll start stripping the cap, lol.

1987 Power Play XLT-185 - floors, stringers, and upholstery

Thanks for that. I had thought it may be nice to wet sand and buff while it's low, but you're right - I've been in a rush to get the cap back on! I just hate that it's outdoors. But I can set up a 10x10 canopy over the area I'm working. Would you recommend removing the windshield and other...

1987 Power Play XLT-185 - floors, stringers, and upholstery

Got up this morning before it started getting hot and peeled back the tarp sitting over the cap for the first time in over 7 months. Thankfully, no wasps to contend with. I did what I'm hoping was the last of the fiberglass grinding I'll have to do on this boat. I ground the old tabbing...

Alpha One Gen 1- Reassembly bellows questions...

I just rebuilt my Alpha 1 Gen 1 transom assembly and I used the molded hose. I didn't need the bellows tool to get the u-joint bellows onto the bell housing - it popped in place when I pushed the bell housing onto it. Make sure all your hose clamps are facing the right way when you put it...
