Buy a boat with a bad starter?

Sounds like a trap to me.

    73 Sea Ray restoration

Nice! Ain't nothing wrong with setting the interior in place and making boat noises to get motivated!

Advice on transom , stringers and floor rebuild

The original builders of my boat just pulled the rubber fuel hose under the floor and foamed it in place. Honestly, a terrible idea if you ever have to replace it - there was no way it was coming out without the floor coming up. I put some grey PVC conduit under my floor to pull my new fuel...

Is the best way to repair this on the bottom of my Hull

Mine has a similar spot - my plan is sand out the edges, apply thickened gelcoat, fair it in, then put a Keel Shield over it.

1994 Rinker Captiva Ski Locker Floor Crack

The wood in the opening looks dark and very wet. Putting anything over it will just be a (very temporary) band aid if the wood underneath is wet/rotten. Brace yourself for everyone here to tell you it's time to investigate the status of your transom/stringers/floor by drilling core samples...

1996 Sunbird Spirit 170 Fuel tank

I'm not sure about your particular model, but I'm guessing you'll have to cut out the floor to remove/replace the tank. Only the fittings are required to be accessible.

1986 Bayliner Capri 2150 Bowrider - Rear Seating

You can clearly see in the picture posted that the bulkhead and stingers are already rotten. You're in the denial phase...and that's ok...I think all of us who are restoring boats on this site have been there.

Splatter paint effect using hopper gun

    Not sure...I've never sprayed gelcoat.

1987 Power Play XLT-185 - floors, stringers, and upholstery

Pretty much done removing pinstripes and the old boat name from the hull - there is still more to do on the cap. Hoping the worst of the sun-faded area will wet sand/buff out. If I can still see the old name, I may do a large Power Play vinyl over it on each side. I also got the transom and...

Splatter paint effect using hopper gun

I assume you're talking about on the inside of the hull? I've looked into it some (but never applied it) - I think you need to buy "webbing solution" to add to your gelcoat when you spray it. You should also practice on some scrap pieces - getting it to look the way you want is all about the...

1987 Power Play XLT-185 - floors, stringers, and upholstery

Started removing the pinstripes, and wet sand/buffing supplies are trickling in. I figure while the transom is naked I might as well wet sand/buff. Also got the old registration / mailbox numbers off one side. The 3M stripe-off wheel is no joke...it's doing a great job. I'm following it up...

Advice on transom , stringers and floor rebuild

Why the open space underneath? Why not extend that all the way down to the hull?

    1987 Fourwinns Sundowner Transom repairs

Looks good! I just started pinstripe removal on my boat today. Undecided if I'll put them back on. Love the hot-pink...I'd say it's a period-correct color!

    Stringer replacement - Weep Holes

Hammer tapping on fiberglass won't tell you anything useful. I'd pull up the rest of the floor and drill core samples to test for rot.

    Replacing mercruiser 485

It wasn't too bad on my boat. Start by removing the rub rail and seeing how the cap is held on...screws, rivets, etc. Also, look inside the boat and identify what is attached to the cap and what is attached to the hull, and figure out how you're gong to separate those. My rear bench seat is...

Advice on transom , stringers and floor rebuild

I did 2 layers of 1708 on the face of the transom that you can see from inside the boat. 2 layers of 1708 tabbing on transom/stringers/bulkheads. 1 layer 1708 to cap the stringers and bulkheads. Seems plenty stout now that it's all done.

Transom replacement- need glassing advice (caution - fun inside)

I'm guessing staples were used originally as it's a quick way to fasten together a boat. My deck was stapled together and a TON of the staples had missed the stringer completely. Mine did not have any adhesive holding the deck to the stringers, though. I rebuilt mine with PB between the...

Advice on transom , stringers and floor rebuild

I used mahogany for my mounts. I'm no expert, but I think as long as it is somewhat dense (won't crush under the weight of the engine) and will take a lag bolt, you're probably ok.
