Bought my first boat to cut, gut and rebuild from bow to stern, including engine. Killed my back and suffered the wrath of the fiberglass demons

give fuel the sniff test , chances are its 2 stroke in the tank , therefor you cant use it in your car if it still smell's ok. i know of people that use it to get rid of weeds on the fence line ( not me of course !) . you could get lucky , not knowing the construction of your hull , i have seen...

    Aren't my ignition coils defective?

check the compression. sounds like it may be a head gasket issue. possibly an air leak around the intake manifold ,hit it with some either spray or carb cleaner around all the joins , see if rpm changes.

Making a pressure tester for Mercruiser outdrive

over night should be more than ample time for a leak to show. as posted a squirt bottle with dish soap and water will show most leaks . you are looking for the not so obvious using the pressure gauge so about an hour should do the trick. if your oil was clear with no sign of sludge then you...

    1983 5.7L V8 Chevy rebuild

heads would have cracked already if they were going to crack. main thing to be aware of is their condition in regards to rust internally. the motor pics show no signs of water intrusion to combustion areas or oil . have them crack tested "" given when rebuilding heads for a head reconditioning...

Making a pressure tester for Mercruiser outdrive

while i agree it is nice to have the correct tool for all jobs , some of us have to improvise and use what is available to us at the time of doing a job . if i had to buy a special tool for every job i do in the shed there would be thousands of special tools that would be used once then hung up...

    Sacrificial Aluminum Prop

ECU can only correct so much abuse and then when it cant correct anymore it will do one of 2 things depending on the set up , older set ups will usually keep running out of perimeters till the motor gives way , newer motors will tend to go to limp mode . if you use that prop on that boat it...

Bought a Used Boat, but what is it?

quite the opposite , a well maintained 4 stroke out board will corrode away and die before it lets you down / dies.. problem being is once owners get around 1000 - 1500 hours they tend to upgrade / trade them in , these old used motors go to the second hand market and are either user maintained...

Making a pressure tester for Mercruiser outdrive

yea good point :) its there why not make something of it. i went to the trouble of brazing a old tire valve to a used drain plug , clip the bycicle pump on and pump up . one thing to add , the recommended test is around 20 psi from memory ,i now only go up to 10 or 12 since i popped a prop...

Making a pressure tester for Mercruiser outdrive

a cheapo bicycle pump and a couple of fittings is all i use , don't over think it you only need a few PSI and it needs to stay stable for an hour or 2, even a squirt bottle with dish detergent squirted around general areas after pumping up will soon show a leak if there is one most times..

    Sacrificial Aluminum Prop

should be ok as get home prop if you don't try to push too hard / lug the motor. only thing is problems may arise if you get wind or seas where you need to push the throttle to keep head way. its a very heavy boat so don't push it as drives are not so forgiving , motors can handle a little...

Bought my first boat to cut, gut and rebuild from bow to stern, including engine. Killed my back and suffered the wrath of the fiberglass demons

the bucket works surprisingly well "in most cases" ,i can vouch for that having 2 girl and one boy grand kids and a missus that have small bladders as well. not that i am one of those tree hugger type but IMHO a bucket is a much better eco friendly option than those nasty chemicals toilets on...

Time for a new battery charger

ok , not that i understand the complexity's of charging "cabin cruiser" battery's. sooooo complex!. may i make a suggestion since you are looking to upgrade to a more moden set up. we here in Australia do a lot of camping out in places that are well off the grid , we don't carry shore power or...

its not that hard to believe :), like where you been , ? under a rock :) . everyone knows what a rinker 24 charging system consists of even the OP , that why he asked for info on what charger was required. now common sense tells me the OP should just simply replace the charger with the same...

    OK I’ve had enough.

yea lots of those flies , they can be swatted away :). yea its a tough environment to live outback away from the big cities, the TV shows do dramatize a lot though , we do get lots of weather from one extremes to the other depending on where you are at what time of the year which can make it...
