    Stringer install

one of my older builds i was relegated to leaving big gaps between the hull and the wood, if i cut the wood to mate all the way along i would have had the floor too low. rather than fill with talc mix and make it very heavy , not to mention the cost of the extra resin i decided to tab the...

    OK I’ve had enough.

yea i would bet that would be a given , i used to live on the other side of Australia (east coat) all winter, either cold and raining ,not cold enough to snow except in the hills, windy and freezing cold and the dampness most of the year. i had a saying : the only way to stay warm in this joint...

one thing many people have commented on is how smooth my 4.3 motor is in the high RPM range and it is so crisp when accelerating . people that have V8 motors in their boats say it is a better engine . i keep in consideration that those people also have bigger boats than my 18 footer so that...

Alpha 1 Gen 2 - gear lube in idle relief ports

if oil is leaking from the drive into the exhaust area IMHo there is no point speculating why its there . 2 options . 1# , pressure wash the entire drive area using full strength dish soap from a squirt bottle first to dilute the gear oil that is there , run up to temp , then investigate where...

    Engine replacement help…

ha ha , one of the reasons i stayed with the V6 is because i had talk / plans of 500 hp like in my other boat , missus was not impressed :).. difference was going to be over transoms as well , missus put the foot down there and that was that . bonus points for me was i now have a boat for...

nasty !, where to go from here is to find a boat with a later vortec motor, due diligence should get you a decent motor. make sure you can run whatever you find up to temperature , pull the rocker covers and look for any sign of water after it has been ran . people in your parts sat rotted...

    Engine replacement help…

i know it is frowned upon in some circles , if i was in your position , i would chase down some used manifolds and risers to get you by. i went to AM HITEK performance manifolds , my OEM ones were not too bad slightly used but ok , with all the hype about not using used risers and manifolds i...

    Engine replacement help…

not here to argue , I'm positive you cant fit a FW with balance bulge IE: early FW , on a internally balanced crank.. FWIW i fitted a internally balanced rotating assembly into a pre vortec motor, not strait forward but can be done , many said that motor should not work , however the let down...

    Engine replacement help…

yes exactly , i got caught out on that one , seller said it was removed as a running concern ,YEA!, problem was and he neglected to tell me , it was a running concern 2 years earlier. more rust than the titanic when i pulled it apart.. my 4.3 fiasco was just one thing after another and costly...

    Engine replacement help…

as posted earlier ? why not find an old rotted boat with a good motor, pull that motor and drive and stick it in your boat, much cheaper and a lot less guess work as to what will fit .

Time for a new battery charger

my post clearly notes that ; i understand that if a boat is penned or moored the need for a battery charger. OP neve indicated if boat is , slipped , moored , "or trailered and kept in a shed" as my post refers too. post 2 , implies to me a pair of side cutters , some cable ties , some wire...

    Engine replacement help…

to add to the above , the reason for the flywheel change is because the early vortec / non vortec is not internally balanced so your FW and harmonic balancer off the old motor cant be used.. best is to use the entire rotating assembly as a matched set ,that said i have no idea if the truck...

Time for a new battery charger

why do you guys need the battery to be fully charged when the boat is sitting in the shed . i understand keeping battery's on tenders when moored or penned to keep on board systems like , bilge pumps , cameras ,etc alive , but in a shed i just dis connect the battery or take them out and use...

    2003 Mercury 90HP 4 Stroke Grounds

you would use a Mercury service manual , the actual power head and some parts are Yamaha , but many of the ancillary items on the motor are Mercury specific. The mercury manual covers everything you will need for that motor.
