    Fiberglass resin question

keep it to yourself , i only use exterior grade ply as well Shhhhh, :). still not cheap to buy and i use lots of resin to seal it. FWIW ,i did a build about 5 years ago and did not complete it , all the glass work was done and it just needs fit out.(found a better project :)) i used very cheap...

    Removing oil paint from fibreglass

if the integrity of the paint on there is ok ,IE: not falling off when pressure washed , my suggestion would be to repair the areas that need it , coat the entire hull with hi fill epoxy primer and then top coat in 2 k epoxy enamel . if it is coming off with pressure washer , keep going till it...

    Steering pin replacement

procedure is >> remove the bolts , clean any corrosion , test for movement in the pins , if the movement is minimal , replace the bolts preferably with new ones as they can stretch and snap (you don't want that) , tighten to spec using the specified thread lock. if there is movement after this...

No compression with rocker arms torqued

good result , however i don't think shims are used to adjust lash in non adjustable lash engines done in the factory. usually its done by hack machine shops when they don't cut all the seats to the same measurement or when the camshaft is worn. your model motor may have shims but in general it...

    Need Advice on Towing Performance

that's funny , but it will be an easy fix to the problem of an under powered boat. FWIW ,my modded 4.3 in my Maxum has a bit of trouble keeping a plane towing with a boat full ,so i just evict a few passenger's..

No compression with rocker arms torqued

did you rotate the motor from the crankshaft one complete turn and recheck the marks before assembly . not doing this is a mistake many people do , so don't feel too bad if you did not. now , if you did not , then yes , it is possible that the slack you re calibrated may have put your camshaft...

No compression with rocker arms torqued

all looks good to me ! hmmm. cam could be ground wrong , but i doubt that. however , anything is possible with the way how people are care free with QC these days :). thinking out aloud ? ,could them lifters have pumped up and not dampening properly. that's all i have for the moment ,glad its...

    Need Advice on Towing Performance

ever hear the saying " you can put a fur coat on a pig ,but it will still be a pig". please don't take that the wrong way , this is not at all implying your boat is a pig ,sorry to say its the little baby motor it has that is a pig, the 4 cylinder 3.0 is not a towing motor, its designed to get...

Popping through carb at 4000 rpm

try disconnecting the tach wire , use a hand held digital tach to get your reading . the reason i mention to do this is i have seen tachometers with internal issues causing high RPM flutter. put a volt meter on the + wire to the HEI and confirm no less than 12v across the RPM range using the...

Throttle spring on 1981 Mercruiser 120. Courting disaster

+1 , that spring should not be there , there should be ""no spring at all""" on your set up. the only spring that should ever be on a throttle / carb linkage should be to pull the carb butterfly's to "closed " position.

Throttle spring on 1981 Mercruiser 120. Courting disaster

when the spring is hooked up correctly there is not enough tension on the throttle lever on the carb to pull the control lever back to idle , so you do not have to hold the lever all day when riding. . the spring is a safe guard if something breaks to stop the motor goin WOT as yours did. the...

Throttle spring on 1981 Mercruiser 120. Courting disaster

i believe there is no way the throttle can go to WOT unless the cable breaks close to the carb or cable falls off the ball on the carb lever. ? what am i missing here ?? , as the spring you speak of is designed to pull the butterfly's to shut if either of the above happens. pics of what you are...
