Will a 1977 135hp Chrysler outboard work as a parts motor for my 1974

The block is probably the same, the ignition might be different, the lower unit like you said is different: I think in 77 they went to a one piece housing for the bigger motors. Post pics of both motors?

    Carb bowl leaking

Gonna leak if it's tilted, NORMAL!! The thing to do is when done boating, before you pull it out of the water or after it's on the trailer unhook the fuel line and run the motor out of gas.

Force 50 (1988) comes out of water in reverse

Gear oil leak?? Sometimes the "leak" is just unburned gas/oil that leaks it way down from the carb??? Drain the oil, don't remove the slotted screw on the side of the nosecone, #29/30 #28/27 is the drain plug for the bottom drain and the vent/fill. The screw on the side is a locating pin for...

Force 50 (1988) comes out of water in reverse

Parts 20-30 is what you need. Easier to install if the motors off the boat.

1973 Chrysler 6 HP Two Stroke

Flipping a seal: If??? you think the seals leaking and don't have a replacement then sometimes flipping it over and reinstalling, can help stop it from leaking. It works in a pinch. The wear surface usually ends up in a new spot and can stop the leak. Desperate measures.

1996 Force 40HP suddenly died, wont start.

Test it. Squeeze the ball to prime the system. Turn the motor over a couple of revolutions. Then unhook the yellow hose at the primer and pinch off the hose. Then have someone turn the key and activate the primer. There should be a shot of fuel from the primer when the key is pushed in. If...

1989 85 HP Force neutral safety switch help!

Two tiny allen head screws. Why remove it? It's there for safety. You need to hook the two wires together or the motor won't start.

1996 Force 40HP suddenly died, wont start.

Plugs aren't the problem. I could put lawnmower plugs in there and the same thing would happen. Test the alarm system for overheating, then check the diaphragm in the fuel pump. The primer has a tiny hose that goes to the side or bottom of the carb, pinch that off after it starts. The primer has...

    Can't get flywheel off!!

Maybe it was the plugs that showed weak spark? I always try to get someone to hold it when I'm trying to get spark. Then I can tell how strong the spark is by how loud they scream. :) Big stick or heavy insulated screwdriver, hold the plug against the block and see how big the spark is or get a...

Pontoon sitting for over 10 years

Probably made after 95 The Trim@Tilt is under/inside the transom clamps, that shows Mercury parts. Mercury used their stuff after 94. Rust cylinders??? If the motor turns over??? Then rust shouldn't be a problem. Look for posts about waking up a sleeping motor, or one that's been winterized or...

    Can't get flywheel off!!

Before you damage anything: outboardignitiondotcom has test procedures for your motor. Test it and then figure out the problem. Then if you want to remove the flywheel?? get a BIG 3 jaw puller and try that. In some cases the flywheel just about welds itself to the crank, then you might need an...

1996 Force 40HP suddenly died, wont start.

The plug they sold you was too long, but Champion says they are a replacement. The QL76V are the right one. But I don't think the plugs are the problem :( Sounds like it's overheating or the fuel pump is bad??

89 force 125 leaking fuel from carbs

IF??? Ethanol was ever used it could be the problem??? Ethanol deteriorates the inside of the hose and delaminates the inner lining. Had a hose swell and shut off the flow of fuel, looked like a couple of curly pigs tails, didn't leak but stopped the fuel from flowing.

1973 Chrysler 6 HP Two Stroke

You can try Franz Marine (not sure they ship to Canada?? ) The oldest I can find is 1976 6hp. They made two different lengths, most were the shorter ones, post a pic of the lower. It's probably the same as the 73"maybe" What's leaking and needs repaired? Sometimes the drive shaft gets a groove...
