    All Yamaha four stroke outboard motors are preceeded with either the letter F, the letter T or the letters FT. With other letters thrown is an needed.

    If the coil passes the test using Yams procedure, but does not pass using using your procedure, the problem might, repeat might, be in the connection point of the male bullet terminal to the wire. You might get lucky and find a poor connection that can be repaired. In lieu of buying a new coil.

    It probably won't matter but I would retest the coil using the Yamaha specified procedure. From the ground point of the coil to the output lead to the spark plug. With the plug cap removed.

    Maybe drill the hole so as to accept a pop rivet. Then screw the screw into the middle of the rivet.

    No first hand experience on that particular model but the parts catalog and the service manual indicate a pan head screw that would appear to hold the shift rod boot in place. Appears that the screw would screw into a threaded hole that is located with a cavity in the lower unit.
