Bent prop shaft SX lower unit

Have you considered there might be internal damage also? Aluminum or SS props?

New 5.7 issues with old(new) starter

Both starter bolts the same length? Something is odd. Could anything be bent?

    Duoprop hub replacement ?

You hope there was no internal damage. I bought a boat with a VP DuoProp that ran fine, no damage to props but during winter service was found to have one or two teeth missing from one of the main gears. You never know.

Options/Tools for CEL/DTC on Volvo Penta EFI

Buy a Diacom. If you are going to work on your VP engine yourself that has an ECM then I would suggest you get a small laptop and Diacom adapter and software.

    Oil Analysis Poor Sample

Oil analysis has its uses. In most cases people use it to look for trends. But can also be used to look for coolant or water or fuel in the oil. In an engine with a 5 QT oil sump the oil analysis is around the same cost of a DIY oil change. Not a whole lot of savings trying to figure out...

    Frustrated with shift/throttle

The outdrive was completely rebuilt in 2021 and has not been used going out in the water yet. It's been started and run at the dock and on muffs.

    Frustrated with shift/throttle

Yes, my post indicates a new shift cable was installed.

    Frustrated with shift/throttle

Had a new VP shift & throttle installed at the helm last year along with a new shift cable for my Chaparral with VP DuoProp outdrive. Now ready to take the boat out and it won't shift into F or R. Disengage the shift and I can move the lever forward or backwards to rev up the engine. It's...

    Oil Analysis Poor Sample

You can get the UOA done with a NAPA sample kit for $17. Includes TBN which is good to know. Blackstone is what $30? Blackstone seems to also have a habit of trying to push car owners to extend the OCi. If you are going to push OCI then TBN is mandatory. And there some of the measurements...

    Anode in heat exchanger

Installing a new anode in the heat exchanger in my VP 5.7L heat exchanger. Its NPT so Teflon tape to prevent a leak or will the Teflon tape insulate the anode and don't want to do that. Maybe threading in the anode the threads will cut the Teflon tape and no issue with the Teflon tape...

    Oil Analysis Poor Sample

I assume you are using new tubing for each sample? You need to. You can also cut the tubing at an angle to try and avoid sludge. And you can pump maybe 1/4 of the sample container, dump it, wipe it clean and fill the sample container. Or get two sample containers. Look at NAPA sampling for...

When it's coming up on its own is the trim pump motor running?? That's important to know.

Bayline Capri, 1986, no condenser on my aq131a points

I would try and get back to original condition. How about a true upgrade (vs your hacks) that get to a electronic - no points ignition?

Those darn blue VP drain plugs

So I have the older VP part number #3849500. They were superceded by #21114622. The one that snapped has a hole in the center. Which makes them weaker I would assume. But is a good thing for inserting the screw extractor after the plug snaps.

Those darn blue VP drain plugs

Mine is closed cooling. These plugs only drain the exhaust elbow.

Those darn blue VP drain plugs

I will ask Hardin. But needs to be the proper threading. For me it's not a drain plug for the block which might be common between Mercruiser and Volvo Penta. My blue plastic drain plugs are in the VP exhaust elbows.

Those darn blue VP drain plugs

These blue plastic plugs seal with an o-ring and are not NPT. So normal brass NPT plugs will not fit/seal.
