    Appears the corner edges have a small radius on the other edges. If the edges do have the radius then its the newer style. The springs should be orange color. The shift yoke should have a yellow stripe on the back edge. The top of the clutch should have a shallow grove on the inside of it...

    The outside means nothing, it's the inside where the drive shaft rides on the inside of the clutch. What does the drive shaft look like?

    "from the drive" not the drive needs plugged in the "transom assy" otherwise water can leak in from the hole

    Agree, my thought is as you were wiggling the rail to remove it fell off before the rail came loose from the intake

    It all comes down to numbers. Even without splitting you have no idea how its built. There are numbers and/or marks on the gears that can help identify, but it still has to come apart

    That year range would be manual 11 Your range puts the drive into some big changes. When the drive is split, match it up to the pic and see where yours is

    My opinion from KY Leave it where ever it is when last used. Use E0 fuel, no stabil, all good come next year. Found later where @tpenfield did a test and found no difference

    I don't have 39 but appears to be for newer sweep back type There have been several changes over the years with the Bravo. Some where gears, oiling, springs and cone issues Your looking to see if there is slop and/or scoring. Some have been able to have the shaft polished and get it going...

    Don't know your drive serial number or year, but you need the Merc manual, either 11 or 28 There are keepers on the top of the gear that get removed so the parts separate
