    Engine building tip regarding gel-seal?

I’m sure they would and as mentioned it’s probably a silly thought. But a few dab's here and there on the circumstance of the surface add up to a measurable dab in my eyes. I’m sure I’m over thinking it and would never do it in the place. Not even sure why I’m typing this😂

    Engine building tip regarding gel-seal?

Don’t see a need for it myself. And honestly it may sound silly but I think it would likely interfere with the tolerance and getting a proper torque on your bolts. Jmo

Water pump not pumping enough water

Agreed Pumps are not self priming and need to be completely submerged and then some.

I have never worked on a jet pump but I’m think water may be your friend if there’s anything I there that relies it. Just a thought

    Prepping heads/block for new gasket

I wish I could give you a positive answer but it’s just to hard to tell from a photo. If it were me I would put a bit more elbow grease to it. Maybe someone else is willing to chime in.

1990 V4 runs on two cylinders at low RPMs

A little twist back and forth to break the bond before pulling on the hose usually works. If not a squirt of Wd-40 helps make it a bit more slippery.

    Johnson 1993 70hp head removal

Keep at it you’re on your way. Did you ever see this motor running or did you buy it this way? If not running maybe you will get extremely lucky and find a completely blown out head gasket. But with zero compression don’t hold your breath.

    Johnson 1993 70hp head removal

I meant to say it’s going to take patience not practice. I always manage to screw something up. Have you had any luck with it yet?

    Hot Mess

Agreed. Word of mouth is the best review these days. It’s hard to find a shop that will work on the older motors. Just start asking around and you may find someone doing this stuff that has a known good reputation. Best

    Hot Mess

Personally I wouldn’t steer anyone into a $4,000 fix on a neglected motor but that’s just me. Hard to say without actually seeing what you have there.

    Hot Mess

Wow! Sounds like you need to ask around about the mechanic and see what you can find out. I hate to say it but you could very well be being dragged over the coals. What was the original problem you were having and why were all these parts replaced? Were they used parts?

    Johnson 1993 70hp head removal

You can use a wood dowel or similar and a hammer to tap around in different places to drive it off the broken bolt. It’s going to take some practice. Some penetrating oil on the broken bolt may help as well. If you have removed 14 bolts I believe that’s it according to part’s diagram. Best

    1973 70hp Evinrude water pump

You still need a a new impeller regardless of not being used. They dry out and get a set to them. The impeller needs to be soft and pliable to perform properly. It’s a lot cheaper than waiting for an overheat to occur and risking other damage not to mention getting stranded on the water.

Need guidance on Prop pitch and Power, 78 Johnson 55hp 55EL78S

I’m not familiar with your model but I do know they can run very well at idle on one cylinder. If you plan to move forward with this motor any new to you motor should get a new impeller.
