In theory. There is a chance there could be some rot in the water tube and you’re losing a bit of water on the way up. How did the pump housing and wear plate look? Any deep wear marks that could prevent good water flow? Pump housing seal looked good? Quality impeller?
Well this is an interesting one. I wish I had a clue for you but off the top of my head I’m stumped. I’ll keep thinking about it and hopefully someone will have an answer for you in the mean time. Best
Take the good advise and Install the impeller now. Don’t wait any longer.
If the motor has been sitting around the impeller could be dried out and it if breaks up it could cause bigger problems with blocking passages.
It may be fine but why take that chance especially if you already have a...
I’m not sure about fresh water but in salt that would be considered normal corrosion of the anodes doing there job as a sacrificial item.
They may have more or less zinc than the ones on your motor.
I wish by boat would stay that clean.
Glad you got it figured and are back on the water. When I was a kid I had 72’ I believe 6 hp.
I always fished the flats in Fl and would often get caught from a fast outgoing tide. After tearing up a couple props I started making my own drive pins from brass rod and would saw a 1/8th of the way...
Only having for the boat for the short time you have it would be hard to tell IMO. Usually you will notice small changes in performance and even odd sounds before stuff like this happens but not always. Do you have a tac and know what kinda of rpm’s you were running at wot? Previous owner could...
Agreed on exterior ply.
A true marine grade will have no voids between the ply’s. If you were building something for great strength that’s a bonus but not so much for what you’re doing. I made a 18’ skiff 15 years ago with spruce 2x4’s and 3/8 exterior ply for sides and 3/4 for the bottom and...
Long live the 2 smoke!
There are a few ponds my area that have become 4 stroke only and I suspect they will be electric only within 8 or 10 years and people will be swapping out again. I can live without using the ponds. More than enough water around me.
