    You lock the magneto plate in position.----Full throttle or idle does not matter.----Remove wire from coil to ground.-----Make sure lock down screw on points is TIGHT .----Turn flywheel till timing mark is between the 2 marks on magneto plate ----Lift the flywheel off.----Use meter ( ohm scale )...

    Used to put a V-20 Wellcraft on an easy loader .----Back rollers just under water.------When winch got tight.-----Back up a few feet.----Easy to do.----Correct most folks put trailers in too far for loading. ;

    The timing fixture is nothing but a " dummy flywheel " -----You can use the flywheel on your motor to set points to OPEN at the precise time for maximum spark intensity.

    Zero compression center cylinder.

    No surprise to me.----That will NOT buff out with a cylinder hone.-----Take the engine apart.----Inspect all parts.----Needs 3 new improved pistons in my opinion.----Some will argue but there were issues ( thin piston skirts ) with early 3 cylinder loopers.

    Starting an 57 Evinrude 7.5 fleet win after many many years of storage.

    The 5.5 / 6 HP from 1961 to 79 have bronze bushings for the main bearings on the crankshaft.----At 50:1 mix I rarely see any damage.----In fact most look just as good as new.

    Brass shift connector ??------There is only a threaded pin below the starter to remove.----Did you remove the trim tab?

    Qestion on pre-treating this hole in the aluinium transom?

    Need to do more than a little patch on that hole..---Make a plate about 1 foot wide to cover the rotten aluminum.

    Take the head off now.-----A blown head gasket can result in ZERO compression.-----But somehow I do not believe you will like what you see with the head off.-----Post some pictures.

    Head bolts are steel.------Block and cylinder head are aluminum.-----Aluminum expands at twice the rate of steel.-----Therefor bolt torque needs to be checked on occasion.----Very few are aware of the concept.

    Yes , it is a procedure that should be done.-----Simply ignore this modern " torque to yield " stuff.----Many motors have suffered because folks did not know about or do simple stuff!

    It was simple engineering of the day.------Have you weighed this 25 HP motor.----Have you compared the weight to a modern motor ?----Surprised by the comparison ????

    It is a crude mechanical device to prevent you from starting the motor with throttle advanced too far.----A simple device that you can examine / fix by looking at it.----Much simpler to trouble shoot than hidden electronic switches.----Yes , you can take it off and throw it away.

    ??---Go to the parts page for remote control.----I have more than one of those clips.----Know the part # as well.-----But you won't learn unless you find it yourself ---Sorry to be blunt here.
