Power issues after new batteries installed

Well We should have asked what motor are we working on? And where do you stop seeing power? This is how your motor should be wired: Bat switch to starter post Starter post Red to one side 50 Amp Breaker Other side of 50 Amp breaker Red/Purple to Pin 6 of 10 pin motor connector Other side pin 6...

03 Bayliner 195 3.0 alternator sensing wire short

Merc, VP is the motor a Mercruiser, Volvo Penta or other The sense wire would be red/purple and if it shorted to the Alt case the wire should get hot and the 50 amp breaker trip. The 50 amp breaker does not trip if its pressed in. Only way it trips is if current exceeds rating If its the...

    Gimbal bearing.

A sealed bearing will last so many years and will need replacing, a greaseable one will not need to be replaced with good maintenance. And again from previous post, I have never replaced a gimbal on my boat, including the 27 year old boat I just sold, never any water

    Engine backfires around 2500 rpm

Either way its a fuel issue and most likely a carb problem. Backfire at 2500 is lean so carb not supplying enough fuel. Causes; dirty carb, weak fuel pump, antisiphone valve Backfire on take off is lean fuel. Causes; dirty carb, carb accelerator pump

    1990 5.7. 260 Overcooling at idle.

Mkos, I'm as puzzled as you are. The block gets cool water from the circulating pump when the TS opens. It opens which allows water to be pumped in and warmer water comes out around the TS. Only way for cool water to go into the block at out the TS housing is: The housing was not made...

    1990 5.7. 260 Overcooling at idle.

My understanding is it was all 140 because of the main issue was salt water. When EFI and MPI came about they needed high temps so 160 came in. Merc recommended salt folks get close cooling. The service techs here can clarify like @achris @Fun Times @muc

Ok but Merc has been using 160 Stats in open cooled motors for years Here is about a 2010 MPI open cooled https://www.mercruiserparts.com/bam/subassembly/31751/12840/190

Jim he's in fresh water so 160 shouldn't be an issue

    1990 5.7. 260 Overcooling at idle.

You need the small hole in the Tstat so the air will bleed out. The one small hole doesn't have much effect on cooling Since it does have a 160 then I have no clue

    1990 5.7. 260 Overcooling at idle.

Unless the thermostat was made incorrectly from the factory the senders should be separated from direct in coming cold water. Should be on the motor side Being in Erie just put a 160* in it, won't hurt even if you were in warmer waters

Good deal A shorted module can take the diode and fuse out. Having a new module you should be good. If fuse blows again then its the temp switch grounding out

2005 5.0 Me cruiser TKS Enrichment Module/Solenoid NO Power

The enrichment solenoid starts closing down once power is applied. When cold its open and provides more fuel to the motor until it heats up from power. If its not closing down then it may be bad. Power comes from the ignition switch and thru the diode to TKS. After about 10 minutes it should...
