    Find the green and blue wires at the back of the engine.-----One simple test you can do is switch the wires at the motor.----Report if you now have forward and no reverse.

    Did you take these lower units apart before installing them.----So easy and simple to do , ----Well in my opinion it is easy.----First worked on these lower units in 1968.----That was when your motor left the factory !!

    Not odd at all in my opinion.-----Are the notches on shift rods both lined up with the hole in connecter ?-----Is shift adjusted properly up top on the motor ?-----And lower units are easy to inspect internally.-----And finally you are sure it is not the rubber hub slipping inside the prop...

    Some of the last production runs did finally use a temperature warning switch.----Easy to look up.----Test run with a portable tank and known good hose.

    Test run with another tank and hose.-----Running a 2 stroke with fuel starvation issues can do big $$$ damage to pistons.----Post actual values of a compression test here.----Motor needs a new water pump about every 3 years.----Has that been done?----Tested the overheat horn if equipped with one ?

    Carb linkage adjustment for 1976 Mercury 500 50hp with thunderbolt ignition.

    Both carburetors should be closed at idle.----Bottom carburetor only feeds cylinder 3 and 4.----Top carburetor only feeds cylinder 1 and 2.-----No such thing as " delay for the bottom carburetor " on these motors..----Adjust so that both carburetors start opening at exactly the same time !!

    0438557 is the pump you need !----Listed for many years on the 3 cylinder COMMERCIAL 65 HP .-----Those were usually equipped with a simple pump and not with VRO.----Look it up for say the 1992 model 65 HP.
