    Tb IV intermittent spark ?$#???

Forgot about that part. Yes new sensor, other new tune up stuff won't hurt but isn't current cause of your problems. Like @04fxdwgi25 (and me earlier) said, consistent 12v to your coil is the most important thing to get sorted. You can try to jumper direct 12v to your coil pos and see if you get...

    Tb IV intermittent spark ?$#???

No, end with the sensor. If you aren't getting power to the coil, nothing's going to work. (The troubleshooting guide would have stopped you at step 1 if you had looked at it). You need to trace your wiring and see where you're losing power. Start at the ignition switch.

Don't have that one, only manual 8.

    Slave solenoid does nothing

Not sure if the 488 even had a slave solenoid--early 470s didn't (I don't have a wiring diagram for the early ones). Maybe some goofy wiring/alterations. But yeah, if you're getting a click to the starter then the problem is either the starter, main starter solenoid, or corrosion in between.

    Gimbal Bearing Alignment/Installation Tool Question

Doesn't much matter, needs to sit on the fat part of the bar, but far enough forward that the bar won't bottom out in the coupler before the bearing is in. I didn't have a drill press handy and just put some hose clamps on there to keep it from sliding (drilling is better).

    Tb IV intermittent spark ?$#???

The issue is that your sensor is the more unreliable type to begin with, can leave you stranded, and is unfixable on the water. Might work, might not, might work for a while.

    Tb IV intermittent spark ?$#???

Sounds like you have the old style sensor. Won't cause you to lose 12v at the coil pos but for sure will cause you to lose spark. Replace it, and suck it up and buy OEM (I might give Mallory or Sierra a shot, but am probably in the minority). But stay away from no name Amazon sellers.

    Tb IV intermittent spark ?$#???

I think he's saying he's not getting 12v at the pos coil, which wouldn't be an issue with the tach. Do you have power to the gauges the whole time or do they drop out as well?

Mercruiser - 3.7 ( 470 ) Alpha1 ( please list the sources of CLEAN water in the oil ) about a cup - Antifreeze not leaking - no green in the water -

Yes, that's what it's supposed to do. Raw water into the exhaust to cool it. I don't remember where the raw water circulates within the reservoir, here's a pic of mine years ago that had corroded through. Not sure if the leak is AF or raw water there though. Correct. Only thing is make sure...

OK, going to revise my earlier statement. Failed gasket can cause AF to leak into the exhaust, not raw water. A corroded (rusted through) reservoir can cause raw water to enter the exhaust I believe, but it's been a while since I've looked at one of those reservoirs. Manifold has no raw water...

Yes, if that gasket fails between the mani/elbow, or if the elbow corrodes (manifold is aluminum on later models, lasts longer) that can also let fresh water into the exhaust.

Would need to know the voltage at the coil first. Do a search. Like Bigfoot, unsure if it actually exists. Every few years someone comes up with a solution, claims it works, and then disappears. Last I saw I think was a regulator for a motorcycle. I mean, it *should* be possible, plenty of...

Check your voltage at the coil, you could burn out your points. If you really want to half ass it, you could put an extra resistor in line to lower the voltage to ~9v. Or you can try one of the cheap voltage regulator fixes that have been proposed in the past.
