    Help please

Oh yeah, bat wings. They kill engines and yours are 25 years old. Definitely replace them.

    1989 Mercruiser 4.3 LX, Alpha 1 Gen 1 Overheating

I leave the o ring off. Turning the prop turns the shaft. Do yourself a favor though and reassemble the drive and then install the complete unit

    Windshield hinge pin removal

The big issue is not the replacement, seems easy enough. Even with a new center piece (actually I removed one pin) the problem is the fixed portion that has limited access and is more precarious. Yes, just an aluminum rod. It's the disassembly, which I can't figure out. I wonder if trying to...

    Oil in bellows questions…

Dial torque wrench, I misspoke. Only other proprietary tool I can think of is the castle nut remover?

Stalling after warm-up mystery 5.0 Mercruiser Searay

I'd grab a timing light and put it on one of the wires to rule out an electrical issue, make sure you're getting consistent spark. Double check that your choke is open and stays open. Have you looked at your fuel filter, make sure no water in there? Once it starts again, are you ever able to get...

    50 amp circuit fail

It did, but looked pristine inside. For sure no water intrusion. The studs are encased in epoxy and the front is gasketed pretty well it seems.

    Turning point hustler 4 blade

Well, I went skiing for the first time in 2 years. Got me up with full tank of gas and 3 aboard on a dedicated slalom ski. I had a REAL hard time with the 3 blade, this seemed much easier (but 2 years ago...). What is true is that I have, if anything, gained 1 or 2 mph top end. Hit 47 on the...

    50 amp circuit fail

TL;DR: When the 50 amp breaker trips, does the button pop out? Has anyone had it fail without external evidence of failure? Boat ran perfectly for about a half a day for the first time in 3 years :) Oil pressure gauge started bouncing, noticed fluctuations in voltage at helm, etc. Boat still...

    Windshield hinge pin removal

Just had the hinge on my walk through windshield break. It appears to have an aluminum channel on both the standing and moving part of the windshield held together with pins which both sheared. Now I can't get the remnants out of the channels so that I can replace them. Tried driving them out of...

    Idle issue 4.3 mercruiser LX

I should have kept my mouth shut. Running perfectly, then my windshield hinge broke, then my oil pressure gauge started acting up, pulled the cannon plug and f'd it up, so now no power to the helm. My current mechanic stays plenty busy, but what do you mean by "too much"? He thinks he drinks a...

    Idle issue 4.3 mercruiser LX

Yup, but if his secondaries aren't closing completely then now you have extra air + extra fuel. Also, none of this has anything to do with the alternator. It's a 30 year old boat. My boat has been acting perfectly for exactly 10 minutes out of the last 5 years.

Cyclone S jet boat need help

Does this have a 3.0 mercruiser, or is this one of the jet boats with the Force outboard powerhead? (And some had merc outboards too I believe).

    Idle issue 4.3 mercruiser LX

No, that's the sensor. Module is NLA. A voltage spike wouldn't magically reprogram the module, it would fry it. And the idle isn't set by the module. Timing is, which affects idle. You can check timing. But at 2200 rpm you likely have air getting into the engine, either past the butterflies or...
