New Tohatsu 3.5 HP (MFS3.5C) Won't start after it's warmed up.

I'm wondering if you have one of those new tanks that don't vent until some higher pressure is achieved. This might cause the engine to flood after being shut down. Perhaps you can try and leave the cap on the tank loose, so it won't develop vacuum or pressure and see if that makes a...

2012 15 HP Honda Outboard cutting out when giving it throttle.

Have you cleaned the fuel pump? I suspect it has a low float level and you're running a little bit lean when you do have it running. That will cause a hesitation, and the hesitation will get worse the more lean it is. Then, with the float bowl already low, you basically run out of gas when...

What are these holes for in this carbeurator drain manifold

Actually, one of them WAS the PEE tube. Here are a couple pics from the Service Manual. The first one shows three connections, the carb drain, the PEE tube, and a third one. The last section of the manual, there is an "85 Supplemental", with another look at that grommet and you can see...

    Help identifying 7.5hp

Looks to me like that serial number is B100S-1404029. That would imply it's a 10HP motor. Is it possible the cover is not original? Looking at some older threads, one suggestion was "Look at the spark plug wires. They have a year of manufacturer stamped on them." (to which the original...

Honda BF15 15HP outboard dies at full throttle

Have you tried pumping the primer bulb when you first get symptoms? That could tell a lot by how it responds.

The 9.8 4Stroke Mercury/Tohatsu motor... is the same block as?

I'm specifically interested in info on the 9.8. Is it only the 8 it shares major parts with?

Update Tohatsu 5Hp for 6Hp- carburetor

The three carbs definitely have a different minimum diameter in the venturi, as well as different jetting.

The 9.8 4Stroke Mercury/Tohatsu motor... is the same block as?

Not familiar with the 9.8 4 stroke motors... do they share any major components (block, crank, rods, etc) as any of the slightly larger 9.9 motors? Are they the same as the 8HP motors or any others?

Need Model number on 10 hp Honda outboard

I'm still sticking with my BF100 guess. I have a BF8A, and yours is virtually identical, as the BF100 superceded the BF8A.

    1987, 454 Help!

I agree with LouC's post. Carbs are great when they're working and setup great. If it's running rich it's likely just something simple in the carb, like a float valve not seating properly. Do ALL the plugs show rich? Is it only rich at idle or rich under load/at speed too? Are you sure...

    First Tohatsu motor 9.9HP

I'd be surprised if you couldn't use just about any trigger coil. You'd just have to make sure that it mounts similarly so that the timing and gap is about the same as the old one.

    Electric start conversion kit

I agree with above on the price. There's likely not much to it though, unless you have to change the flywheel. Do you know if yours already has the gear on it? You might just have to track down a starter motor, which would probably be a lot easier and cheaper. Picking up any small...

    Stator

If you can't find one then the old one can always be rewound. Not that hard to do manually, just takes a little time. You can unwind the old one, measure the length, then just get some good "magnet wire" of the same length and rewind the opposite way it came off. There are places that do...

    Should water be ejecting?

Water should definitely 'eject' when the engine is running. It either bypasses the thermostat or goes through the engine. On any "new to you" engine you should ALWAYS remove and inspect the impeller, and likely replace unless it's in perfect condition, otherwise you're just setting yourself...

    Combustion Problem?

That's not an adjustment, it would be a jet or metering device. It probably does unscrew, but you need to use a properly-fitting screwdriver to loosen it so you don't bugger up the device. You probably can loosen and remove it, but be careful to not mess it up. The idle mixture adjustment...

    Combustion Problem?

Typically the throttle butterfly would only show ONE of those holes when it is in the idle position. That one would be controlled by the idle mixture screw. You probably have one of those screws, but it's "hiding" under a brass cap that is put there so folks won't mess with the EPA setting...

Update Tohatsu 5Hp for 6Hp- carburetor

This is what Google Translate tells me it says: "Hi, I bought a non-genuine carburetor to increase the power of the Tohatsu engine to 6Hp, but the engine with this carburetor does not work well, so I'm looking for a mistake and please help, I don't want to spend my money on another carburetor...

    Combustion Problem?

I can guarantee it happens. The whole passage was filled with hardened goo even though the bowl and the rest of the carb was clean. Tried soaking it a few times and the only way I got it clean was to run a flexible wire through it several times.

    Combustion Problem?

Does your float bowl look like the one in post #13?? Did you make SURE that passageway was CLEAR? You can try and spray something in one end and see if it comes out the other, but be careful because if it's plugged the spray might come right back into your face.
