1996 Century Boats 1800 Center Console Refit and Modernization

If I end up hating my carpet, I think I may pull it up and do an EVA foam floor one winter. What's replacing EVA like? I'm assuming it comes up in tiny shreds and you end up having to sand most of it and the adhesive off...

    1977 Glastron 175hp 175hpv “Free Boat” project

Take a few weeks off from stressing over what to do with the boat and watch all of Frisco Boater's videos on his SeaRay restoration, then watch JMink's videos on his Glastron restoration, then watch a bunch of Boatworks Today's videos. Then decide if hull restoration is something you want to do...

1987 Power Play XLT-185 - floors, stringers, and upholstery

Are you talking about using an etch primer, or something like Alumiprep 33 (or both) prior to paint?

1987 Power Play XLT-185 - floors, stringers, and upholstery

Thanks for sharing. I honestly think I'm going to paint it still, but we'll see once I get the other frames stripped!

1987 Power Play XLT-185 - floors, stringers, and upholstery

Nope, but I didn't take it down to bare metal originally either...just scuffed up the paint that was already there, so I don't think lack of etch would cause the paint to not cure...maybe not adhere, but it should have still cured.

1987 Power Play XLT-185 - floors, stringers, and upholstery

Well, it was either bad prep or bad paint because it was still wet in spots after 10 hours. I'm going to blame the paint. So I stripped the paint off. Now I'm curious how it will look with a raw aluminum frame on the boat, so I'm going to strip all the frames and set it on there to see. I...

1987 Power Play XLT-185 - floors, stringers, and upholstery

The paint was all scratched up on the windshield frames, so I'm sanding and repainting. Hoping to reinstall the windshield next week sometime.

1987 Power Play XLT-185 - floors, stringers, and upholstery

I gave it an honest look last night and I just don't think I'll be ready by 12/1. I'm going to try to splash 12/5 if the weather behaves and I can get the last few things done needed before putting it in the water for the first time. There will still be work to do after splashing before it's...

Bad 1970 Mercruiser Engine, Please tell me there is still hope.

You can do it. Take a few weeks and watch all of the Frisco Boater videos on YouTube for the Sea Ray restoration he did, and if you want more, watch some of the Boatworks Today videos and JMink's videos on his Glastron restoration as well. I've always been mechanically inclined but fiberglass...

1987 Power Play XLT-185 - floors, stringers, and upholstery

Fired the engine today for the first time since putting the boat back together (over a year). I did not have the drive installed, so no cooling water, but I only ran it for about 15 seconds. Good oil pressure, but it doesn't want to idle unless the throttle is cracked, and the starter isn't...

1987 Power Play XLT-185 - floors, stringers, and upholstery

Thanks zool, I'm sure we'll scuff up the white vinyl really quick, lol. I used DAP spray grade Weldwood (aka landau top & trim contact adhesive). I spray it out of an HVLP gun with a 1.8mm tip. I use 3M PPS, so cleanup is really simple on the gun.

1987 Power Play XLT-185 - floors, stringers, and upholstery

More progress today - I got the last of the carpet installed which meant I was able to also install the captain's chair bases, glove box, and ski locker trim ring. Back of the carpet after rough cutting to shape. I used a silver sharpie to transfer the template from the plastic to the carpet...

    Gimbal Bearing Compatibility and Source?

Stick the new gimbal bearing in the freezer for an hour or two. Then be quick about putting it in so it doesn't warm up. You should still use the correct driver tool, but it should go in much easier than when it's at room temperature.

Loading on U Shaped Engine Mounts?

You could do solid mounts out of a rot-resistant wood like mahogany, then encapsulate the mounts in fiberglass separate from the stringer system, that way if they do get wet, the water won't get into the stringers. That's what I did.

2021 Splash of the Year Nominations

I know, I know...I said I'd have mine done this year, but I underestimated time and money, let the scope creep beyond my initial plans, my truck blew up and needed attention, and I'm a slacker. 😂
