    NPT or NPS

NPTF typically means "National Pipe Thread, Female", indicating the threads in the bellhousing are female threads.

    Transom replacement on I/O

Nobody wants to drill because they know what they will find. 😂 I only laugh because I've been there too.

    Water when pulling stern drive

Thanks Rick. I've got an Alpha One Gen 1, and I do have the manual. I'll look into it.

    Transom replacement on I/O

If your stringers and transom are rotten and you pull them out, a cradle will reduce the chances of your boat flexing out of shape without the structural pieces (floor, stringers, transom) in place.

    Water when pulling stern drive

Got a pic of where the big o-ring goes?

    PVC board as stringers??

It's not hard spots you're watching out for. It's hard (supported) spots beside soft (unsupported) spots that are bad and will cause a stress riser. Raising the stringers up just gives you enough gap to completely fill the area under the stringer with bedding and leave no voids.

    Transom replacement on I/O

Can't really tell what's going on in the picture, but if any of the transom is rotten, you should replace the whole thing.

1987 Power Play XLT-185 - floors, stringers, and upholstery

Got the battery switch panel installed and all the large gauge wiring ran today.

1987 Power Play XLT-185 - floors, stringers, and upholstery

A little more progress on the battery switch / fuse panel. I shifted some things around from the original layout, and have added a switch to the ACR ground wire so that it won't be a phantom load that drains the battery when in storage. I made some standoffs from 1" HDPE bar stock to hold...

1996 Century Boats 1800 Center Console Refit and Modernization

Spraying gelcoat is something I hope to tackle one day. Is there any difference between a regular gravity feed paint gun and a gravity feed gel gun, other than the tip size? Any experience with a dump gun? If so, how does it compare to the gravity feed gun?

High Performance Gear Lube Color - Bravo 3

The drive shower's I've seen are passive devices (no moving parts) that pick up water from the boat's forward motion and spray it onto the exterior housing of the drive. Google "simrek drive shower" for some images. I've also seen folks make their own.

    Lifting the Engine Methods

I set my engine in with an engine cherry picker and the carb lift plate....granted I had no manifolds on the engine and no fluids in it. I hooked my hoist up directly to the lift plate so that I could get as much height as possible out of the cherry picker to clear the back of the boat - I even...

    Transom Drilling and Checking

Correct - look at the color of the shavings. This is from mine. Top shavings are an example of good. Bottom are an example of bad. That dar or darker means it's been wet.

1987 Power Play XLT-185 - floors, stringers, and upholstery

I started working on a mounting plate for my battery switch, charging relay, and a couple of fuses. It will mount here, on the back of the bench seat inside the engine compartment. I'm planning to make some stand-offs to hold it about 1 inch off the fiberglass. Transferring the template...

    Bass boat resurrection

The gelcoat may be hard to save. It looks super oxidized. If you end up wet sanding/buffing through the outer layer of clear gelcoat and get into the metal flake layer, it supposedly turns a cloudy color.

    Laying the Deck Questions

Mix your PB on the slow side...somewhere around 0.75%. Have all your screw holes pre-drilled and pre-countersunk so all you've got to do is lay it down and run the screws in. After drilling and countersinking, make some alignment marks on the deck relative to some fixed place inside the boat...

1987 Power Play XLT-185 - floors, stringers, and upholstery

I've been taking a few evenings off from working on the boat over the last few weeks, but I've been making progress. I split the drive and replaced the water pump and the seal in the upper that the driveshaft goes through. Here is is just after splitting: Here it is after replacing the...

    Question On Changing Stringer Location

I tried several different multi-tool blades, including expensive name brand blades. In the end, I ended up going with cheap blades from Amazon - 10 packs for ~$20. Three 10-packs got me through my entire restoration.

    Foam Filling Hole Spacing?

I had almost 96" between my two holes on my longest run. It filled fine.
