1987 Power Play XLT-185 - floors, stringers, and upholstery

I lined up and taped on the new dash panel so I could mark the few areas that need to be opened up.

1987 Power Play XLT-185 - floors, stringers, and upholstery

Yeah, it looks like high quality stuff. I just unwrapped it for the picture, then threw it back in the bubble wrap and box. I hope to start installing it in the next week or so. This afternoon I glassed in the rest of the mounting pads in the engine bay, including the battery pads - I decided...

1987 Power Play XLT-185 - floors, stringers, and upholstery

I installed the engine bay wood trim that hides the raw fiberglass edge. I also PB'd my mounting pads in place. I used tape to hold them while the PB cures. Anchor light storage (on the back of the bench seat): Bilge blower: Fire extinguisher: And I went ahead and glassed in the...

    Dash hole cover up bezel?

Check out New Wire Marine. I'm using them to make a new panel for my boat and I know they offer some off the shelf options.

1987 Power Play XLT-185 - floors, stringers, and upholstery

Today was woodshop day. Engine bay trim strips cut to length, drilled/countersunk for screws, and currently being oiled. I got all my mahogany "mounting pads" made. These are going to be sacrificial pieces of wood to take the screws for mounting components so that the transom/deck doesn't...

1987 Power Play XLT-185 - floors, stringers, and upholstery

Pulled the engine and transom assembly this morning, as I had to open up one of the transom holes, but now I have the transom assembly fastened with all 8 bolts! :ROFLMAO: Engine is in, aligned, and torqued. I got the carb bolted on and installed the power steering actuator and a new...

'96 lund tyee 1850 floor rebuild and foam replacement.

Cool, I'll check their kit out. You've got a Baron? I heard that my boat (XLT-185) used the Baron hull mold.

'96 lund tyee 1850 floor rebuild and foam replacement.

Did you put any kind of foam strip down between the windshield and the boat? If so, what did you use and where did you get it?

    Quality gimbal bearing tools

I bought the MBS Manufacturing brand tools for pulling the gimbal bearing, installing the new one, and aligning the engine/drive. They seem well made and I had no problem with mine. I bought them on Amazon.

1987 Power Play XLT-185 - floors, stringers, and upholstery

Well I'm a dummy. I found two of my transom plate bolts still sitting on my work bench, lol. Apparently I only installed 6 of the 8 bolts. I tried putting them in with the engine in place, but I think it's just going to be easier to hoist the engine up some to gain access. No biggie, other...

    '85 Sierra 16.5' Fiberglass - Floor / Transom / New Layout

It's honestly way less of a hassle than it seems. We got a video of us putting the cap back on mine - you can see it here. I just separated the halves and slid some long 2x4's between them and lifted the cap off (with the help of some family and friends). Just make sure you measure a bunch...

    '85 Sierra 16.5' Fiberglass - Floor / Transom / New Layout

No, he is saying to pull the entire boat cap. Remove the rub rail from the perimeter of the boat, then remove the screws/rivets holding the cap onto the hull, then lift off the cap. This will give you access to the area under the walkway without cutting the walkway out, since it's part of the...

1987 Power Play XLT-185 - floors, stringers, and upholstery

Super productive day. I got the cubbies gelcoated. I've still got to carpet them and drill the hole for the USB charger ports before installing them in the boat. I installed part of the remote oil filter kit and the entire remote oil drain kit (not shown). Next I did some measurements...

1979 Baja Tri 16 restoration project

No need for apologies - I'm working on my first one too. I also came into this from a car restoration background and was expecting to find all kinds of drawings and manuals...man, was I disappointed, lol. It seemed daunting to take on at first, having never worked with fiberglass and not...

1979 Baja Tri 16 restoration project

It's not like restoring a car. There are no manuals with part numbers listed for the boat. Even if there were, chances are the boat company wouldn't carry stock. As Scott said, it's either custom/diy (interior, structure, etc), or you find a current off the shelf item that matches or is close...

Restoring 1988 sea ray seville v135 open bow outboard

As you grind you'll be able to tell when there's a bubble or poorly adhered piece of fiberglass further down - it's a white patch. You'll want to grind those out. But I stopped grinding down once I had a relatively uniform appearance. Look in my thread - lots of pictures. You'll be able to...
