    OMC may have use the name Gamefisher, but the motors were not the same. OMC motors had a Choke, they also had the gearshift linkage where this so called Primer is located, the Fuel Line on the OMCs connected on the Port side, all of which are different on the Motor in the picture.

    It would have to be a very light hull to use a 1.5 on a 5 liter, otherwise props in the 14 - 17 inch pitch would be needed. The 1.5 ratio was more commonly used on the 5.7

    It will be going faster than what the GPS states when you are going against the current.

    Did you verify that the Pin/Key that links the Impeller to the Driveshaft was in place? Also the Grommet for the watertube in the pump housing needs to be there

    The carb is vented to the Atmosphere, so pressing on that bulb, any air from from it would be vented by the bowl vent.

    So for it to work that way, the Carb is vented thru this primer thing? A choke works so much better

    If the engine has trouble running at speeds below 1000 rpm, then you have some Troubleshooting in store for you. First thing is a Compression Test. Post the numbers Can the Spark jump a 3/8" Gap on all plug wires? Is the Timing set properly? Is the Choke unwinding fully, allowing the Fast Idle...

    I gave my earlier comment, cause the link you gave showed a Johnson Control, and being that he would be dealing with an Evinrude Control, though electrically the same, they certainly have little Resemblance to each other

    If a Ring End is going to catch on a Port, a Chamfer is not going to make any difference.

    Only if runs are made in opposite directions over the Exact same Distance, as 5 mph current becomes a 10mph difference between the directions when using GPS

    My I/O doesn't pee water out, it however does dump large amounts out of sight. I have to rely on a Gauge.

    I would Not put my faith in GPS speedometers on a boat. They will measure speed across the Bottom of the Lake/River, but not speed across the water, as they fail to take any current into account

    The OP has an Evinrude, which uses a different Control, with a Push Button Switch for Shift Control
