Depends on how slow ya want to go.. yes you can reduce prop pitch but that increase rpm so wll need a tach. Best option is a trolling plate as allows you to vary speed. Have several crappie customers with 150HPs that troll with plate.
The quad seal cuts grooves into yoke and causes oil to leak into u-joint bellows .If rubber gasket ring is rolled oil can leak into shift cable area and leak out shaft. Have seen this several times on early Alphas.
If the injectors are leaking by you flood the crankcase, when engine is last run the internal heat and extend no run period evaporates the fuel and leaves the oil residue.
Service require them to be removed and sent off for screens replaced, cleaned and flow tested and balanced. There are a few that do this as Brucato is the only one I prefer. Beware as there are those who clean them but never check flow rate just spray pattern.
What has salt build up have to do with original post of rough running and smoke? 3Ric the plug being cleaner could be a problem...run a compression test first.
I have reinstalled the head and used it as a guide plate before. Secret is correct bits and cooling oil (kerosene). Need a 118° Helical tip not the one in the kit
That $20 filter kit is the screw on cannister with water sensor... If that motor has the early style style VST, the screen is NLA. and was $500. The only time we disagree is when you post information you clearly know nothing or are confused about.
