If the boat tach is accurate then yes, but there has been many times the boat tach cannot be trusted
May also be the 4-blade prop is lifting the boat to much
IF its working correctly, there should be no water go up thru the check valve, its only used for draining. That said, if its not working correctly then it could.
Your checking it correctly, just saying if the ground or the hot going to the 10 pin connector is corroded, it would skew the reading. If you can connect to the battery neg for ground, you could determine it its on the ground side
Just noticed been in private discussion , updating thread
That just means the heads are different. In 1995 the vortec heads started and this is where the extra HP comes in
Need to keep the info in this thread so others can see
The flywheel will be the same. After 1985 the flywheel changed to current one
The one piece rear main seal started in 1986, but note marine is usually behind with motors. Check the block serial number to verify

That's quite a bit of drop thru a switch IF that is whats happening. All the boat gauges can be off. Might be on the ground side, even at the engine connector
That said, you can replace the switch with any 3 position switch
Use permatex aviation sealer

My thought is the circulating water pump is leaking and its running down the back of it. Could also be anything else above it like, thermostat housing or other

Don't know how you would get a reading without actually seeing and testing the wiring. Might have just been rust allowing voltage to transfer, but would do nothing when current draw increased
With water in the cylinder that would be the reason to only get a clic because it was hydro-locked
Note which ones have water coming out.
Squirt some oil in cylinders and crank over some more. Might need to use a bit more oil if any more water shows up.
Do a compression test and see what the...
