Was listening/looking for the same change in rpm with the loosening of each injector. If they were all the same change then there should be no issue

    Mercruiser Pinout Lists/Diagram

Your new motor needs a 10 pin harness connector which has 9 wires in it. Pick up a 10 pin pig tail, cut the connector off yours https://www.hardin-marine.com/p-13226-mercruiser-style-wiring-pigtail-mercury-plug-instrument-side-12.aspx

Mercruiser 3.0 135hp. Crank and rods

With compression that high there is liquid in the cylinder. Head is warped so gasket is not sealing or cylinder is cracked and water is leaking in. When the motor diesels, that's when motor runs in reverse just before it dies and sucks in water. The water can bend rods and break things The...

Mercruiser 3.0 135hp. Crank and rods

The crank and rods are NLA, and I would not try to put an old crank/rods in a newer block Unless you know what caused the second set of bearings to get eaten, I would look for the cause first before going further Do you know?

    Idle speed, Mercruiser 2.8 165hp D-tronic

The ECM adjust to keep idle within spec, but can only adjust so far. If one or more injectors are not getting the correct amount of fuel then there may not be enough room for the ECM to adjust. There should be a code thrown and the MIL light would be illuminated. You didn't mention the light...

    Idle speed, Mercruiser 2.8 165hp D-tronic

I would start with the basics. Air cleaner Fuel filter (is it clean and full, if not full check antisiphon valve) Exhaust system (manifold, turbo, pipe) I would lean toward the fuel system since this just happened and was doing fine. If a piece of crud got into one of the injectors it would...

    Key switch / Ignition issue

Turn the key to start and hold, then pull the shifter back n forth a bit to see if it will start to crank. If it does its the neutral switch If it doesn't connect voltmeter probe to Yellow/Red wire on the key switch and turn to start, should see 12V. If 12V is found then put probe on the...

    Key switch / Ignition issue

Power goes to the key switch on the red/purple wire, which also has a 20 fuse. The fuse is probably a inline type. It will be behind the helm. Follow the wire to find it

    Thermostat Housing Check Balls

Could check the circulating water pump to see if the vanes inside the pump have come loose from the shaft. Normally when this happens the motor just over heats. If a head gasket was the issue, then the heat/water still comes together in the thermostat housing and splits almost even.
