2019 Grand Cherokee came with wrong size spare....Just found it out

My brother owned a 1999 Ferrari F-355 Berlinetta and we were driving up to Lime Rock Park raceway for an event some years back. Got a flat, and all it had was a can of fix a flat. Not going to work for this so we had it flatbedded to the one shop in Conn. that had the right size Bridgestone...

    riser bolts too long

A good thing to have, when doing jobs like this, is a set of thread chasers, both for threads and bolts, it will make your life a lot easier and avoid grief in the future! You want to clean up those threads where you have to cut them. Good for you changing them before they leaked and ruined an...

    Stupid me, no oil

This depends on which one you have, Merc and OMC used an actuator with a rebuildable control valve up to about 1989, after that the valve changed. The cylinder isn't rebuildable as far as I know but that old style control valve can be rebuilt. Why? Well it's the same one used in old style...

    Stupid me, no oil

There is only one notable exception, Toro or Lawn Boy 2 stroke mowers and snow blowers, were spec'd to get TCW-III because it causes less deposit built up in those low revving 2 strokes (governed to 3600 rpm). Unlike leaf blowers or trimmers or chain saws which can exceed 9,000 rpm. They need...

    Stupid me, no oil

Salt water is very challenging. I started spraying all vulnerable ares at the start of each season with Corrision X or now Fluid Film and that helps. Same on the trailer I spray all fasteners and springs 2x a year…. I started using Fluid Film on my old Jeeps as an experiment and I think the...

    Stupid me, no oil

With the actuator my small leak went from small to big to the point when the bilge pump kicked on some to the red ATF wound up in the water! This will cause a fine for sure so I had to fix it. I was able to do it by pulling the exhaust on both sides after pulling out the rear seats…not a fun job...

    Stupid me, no oil

On rubber bushings with a bolt thru it I will sometimes use silicone grease because it doesn’t deteriorate the rubber.

    Stupid me, no oil

Agreed 100% and I’ve been doing that ever since I read it in my OMC shop manual…now that you can’t really get Perfect seal or Evinrude gasket sealer (same supplier?) I’m using Permatex Aviation…. As far as sprays, I have used them all, not sure if there much difference but the lanolin ones like...

    Stupid me, no oil

I would for sure change the steering cable Also unless nearly new, the starter Next, any sign of leaking at the steering actuator? They are very tough if not impossible to change with the engine in place. I’d also look at the joint between the Y pipe & transom mount for leaks and the steering...

Simple winterization process / draining 4.3gl

yes based on that pic, the hose coming from the transom mount should be the top one (water flows into impeller housing). Ok I'd make sure that your drain plugs are all in (each side of block, and exhaust manifolds) and I would fill each of the hoses for the impeller with water before firing it...

    Cross country trailering advice/tips

it's a bit of a lost art. Remember when all our rear drive cars had adjustable front bearings? It was a normal part of a brake job, do the brakes, re-pack the bearings, adjust bearings. Except back in the '70s we had that nasty smelling fibrous yellow wheel bearing grease, yuk!

2019 Grand Cherokee came with wrong size spare....Just found it out

When I wanted to up size the wimpy 245/65-17s on my 07 Grand Cherokee 5.7 I was limited by what the biggest size would be that would fit under the rear storage area. Even going to a 1” taller tire (245/70-17) I still had to trim the back side of the trailer hitch & ends of the bolts to get it to...

Testing Gas Flow on 82' Wellcraft Sterndrive

If you maintain them points can be quite reliable and just carry spares….ive been boating with a points distributor for over 20 years with no on the water breakdowns…if you get a Petronix or an electronic full distributor replacement buy a spare module….

2019 Grand Cherokee came with wrong size spare....Just found it out

On any long trip I check the spare air pressure in addition to the others but also bring a plug kit and an electric impact gun…torque wrench…yeah I get funny looks putting that into the back of the Jeep…

2019 Grand Cherokee came with wrong size spare....Just found it out

On all our Jeeps and Subarus I always made sure we had a full size spare. Especially the ones with full time 4x4.

Outdrive will not go back into transom

get the height correct, get the bell housing square with the drive sealing surface, guide the driveshaft in straight, use a long thin screwdriver to turn u joints if needed, usually it is pretty easy. Yep that's a salt water used drive, moored in the brine every summer for 23 years. Last year I...

Outdrive will not go back into transom

just hit the trim down and they should both retract equally, then position them straight back, and after bolting up the outdrive, you can lift the outdrive so that the holes all line up by putting a floor jack under it just lift it till all the holes align. Also I grease the trim ram rod with...

Outdrive will not go back into transom

It is similar to doing an R&R on old school VWs such as we had in the '70s. We had a reinforced creeper with 2 scissors jacks on it, and used that to lift the engine till the transmission input shaft was aligned the clutch plate, and besides getting it at the right height, you used a spark plug...
