Swap drives from one boat to another. How many day project?

StarCraft has now made it to the destination. I actually got one light working for the trip. I bought a set of magnetic lights in case. Greased the bearings, pumped the tires up and that was it. Now questioning my decision to modify the smaller trailer to fit. After really studying the trailer...

Starter options for 2000 5.0 GL?

DB electrical usually works. It’s all China stuff and it’s cheap but it does usually work fine. They have gotten very popular If you can get the numbers off your starter, than Napa can get a rebuild for you

    Is this trailer repairable?

That appears to be galvanized. Very few people are going to want to weld it if it could possibly be repaired. I’d call it junk

Constant ringing noise from throttle when motor is running.

On a little 40hp it’s either overheat or a low oil alarm if it’s oil injected

Constant ringing noise from throttle when motor is running.

Pee stream doesn’t ensure cooling. It ensures that the impeller is working. There is a thermostat, and cooling passages which can cause a warning horn overheat

Swap drives from one boat to another. How many day project?

Cayuga and Seneca. Usually on Cayuga out of Deans cove or Lodi point, and if we venture out on Seneca, it’s always Sampson beach. The big boat which is the one I’m working on. I’m in right now for $5k or so with the parts boat and all. But I have to put it together and get it all worked out...

Swap drives from one boat to another. How many day project?

Perhaps I should do the swap. Stick it in the water and see what happens. I’ll have some bugs to work out and it’s a $20 set of gaskets if something is amiss. I grew up with my dad running sketchy boats. Sometimes in sketchy conditions. We had a lot of fun fishing the finger lakes. I still go...

Swap drives from one boat to another. How many day project?

Now the question is to bellows or not to bellows?. They look great inside and out and the bearing is smooth… but I don’t know how old they are. I pulled the drive off yesterday and I expected it to put up a fight. But it practically fell off and everything that should be greased was greased so...

    $100 Paint Job Question.

I can’t say for sure except probably. I don’t know if BarryK still owns SPI or not but it’s a very good company with tech support. He was on a number of car forums in the past. But they do have a real tech support

    $100 Paint Job Question.

I think that means it’s water based…. The good old standby lacquer thinner will work for alkyd enamel

    Mercruiser decals

I opted to buy original style decals from EBay in the original colors. I looked up the OEM set and it’s $150-220 depending on who has it…. I paid the $20 for the aftermarket decals and I’ll paint it with black rust oleum and it’ll look better than it does.

    Mercruiser decals

eBay is loaded with decals. I asked both places that is listing them if they could customize them a little and use the newer 2004+ Mercury M logo on the alpha Gen 1 format ( they have them for Gen 2 ). But both of them declined to do it. I’ll probably put OEM decals on it. I see the one place...

    Mercruiser decals

Anyone know if there is anyone who makes modern looking decals for an Alpha gen 1? Or if the lack of quality makes OEM a necessity. My drive is in good shape but I might as well give it a coat of paint and re decal it while I’m doing stuff with it. Several places sell blue versions of the...

    Jerry-Buddy?

The magic of this if you can call it that is simple.. the fuel filter fits inside the cap with the nozzle removed and that’s literally all it is. Nothing special. They add the check valve so that it can’t siphon but nothing marine grade about it. It has more use with the guy who owns an old car...

Supersport dash and interior side panel ideas?

little chrome bling from the period if you want is a 60s Mercruiser gauge panel. There’s a few variations. There is always a few of them on EBay at any given time.. I’m actually going to put one in my rat rod, and even leave the Mercruiser decal as it’s going to be powered by a Mercruiser 2.5

Swap drives from one boat to another. How many day project?

Will the shift and throttle cables work from the old 1971 drive? It’s the kind that has the cables on the transom and a separate for the carb: The alpha has the cables on the top of the valve cover

Restoring a trailer vs replacing a trailer

It’s a fiberglass vs tin boat. It’s gotta be close for the StarCraft but even if it’s heavier it’ll be under 3,500 and that’s a heavy tin boat if it actually grosses 3,500

Restoring a trailer vs replacing a trailer

This is a single axle with 175 80 r 13 tires and 5 lug hubs. The 16’ boats listed dry net weight is 1960 lbs iirc where the StarCraft is 1400 something so Im nowhere near the weight requirement for brakes. I will have to adjust the rollers for sure
