Silliest Question on Fuel Mix - Thank you for your patience

Some of the older motors need extra oil to seal rings and oil seals and have bushes instead of rolling element bearings . My old seagull runs 16:1 ( 1/2 a pint to the gallon ) . This was speced for 30w oil and the new stuff will lube the engine at 50:1 but it really needs that extra oil...

    Transom saver or no?

When I got my boat ( Marlbrough Dart 4.1m , 35hp Honda ) I just used the latch on the motor to rest it while traveling , carted it thousands of Kms with no issue .........but it was nagging at me , and I had to straighten the latch at some point so Im liking the spring loaded outboard support...

HP 60 EFI: Change oil filter without draining oil?

You sure can change the filter without draining oil . I think its generally accepted that a filter can be changed every 2nd oil change as long as that oil change is done in time . Having said that I usually put a filter on every oil change . $125 bucks worth of oil .... another 25 for a...

'99 Mercury 50HP ELHPTO: carburetor idle screw adjustment procedure

What Chris says is true , but the speed at which you slam the throttle open does have some bearing on things too .. Without accelerator pumps there is a flat spot off idle that can be unnoticeable when opening the throttle slowly but very obvious if you floor it . Carbs have progression...

Opinions of engine owners. Least trouble and lower cost. Carburetor or F I ?

I bought my 1st efi car in 1988 and have had nothing but efi since then . I have had 5 cars and the ONLY efi issue I ever had was one of the injector plugs had broken the retaining clip and about every now and then I had to get out and push the plug back on ..... even showed the Mrs how...

How to read basic timing on 4 stroke?

Google up the service manual . Sounds to me like .... if you have lined up the correct marks on the cam pulley the crank should line up with TDC mark not 5-7 . Its not common for a cambelt to jump teeth unless the belt is loose or damaged . Its more likely that the belt has been fitted wrong...

    Enough is enough

Yeah thats the problem with restraining and trespass orders ..... nutbags usually dont care about them . They are a step in the process required to get troublemakers taken care of but I wouldnt be feeling any safer for having one .

Prop barrel slightly smaller than the gearcase

Im thinking that even if the exhaust is sealed inside the gearcase the sudden change in dia as the water flows from over the case and on to the prop will cause turbulence and drag . And why is there so much thread showing on the prop shaft ..... unless you haven't got the nut etc fitted

    Arghh! Freakin raccoon.

I guess what I meant was , why would you relocate something that is going to be a pita wherever its , but I do get the respect for the animal and not wasting the resource. I do wonder sometimes tho ( human nature ? ) at just how quickly that respect disappears when the critter becomes a...
