    Drive destroyed

So I bought a Chaparral with a VP DPS-A. Boat ran fine during the sea trial and survey. During routine winter maintenance metal chips were found in the gear oil. Upon further examination it looks like the SS props had been repaired. When the outdrive was pulled apart the forward gear was...

    Water lock

The manifold may need to be tested for a leak. Inspecting does not really do a thorough job. Some people test for leaks by filling the water jacket with acetone and then seeing if the level of acetone drops (I think that's how it's done).

Fuel pump fitting on V8-430-CE-M Engine

You pull that hose to winterize but at the other end of the hose. Not the fuel pump end. Pull the hose down and drain.

    Water lock

So if the plugs were pulled on the right side of the engine water would come blasting out of one of the spark plugs holes. Replace the manifold.

    Old gas in 2024

I still have no tanks or 5 gal containers or 55 gal drums. I am hesitant to put old gas in wife's 2021 Crosstrek.

    Old gas in 2024

I would really like to dump the 50 to 60 gallons of stabilized but old (a year or two) gas that is presently in my boat. Don't see it being used up this fall. But I see no easy way. I don't have an electric fuel pump nor 10 or 12 five gallon red gas containers. My pickup is diesel and my...

Volvo B20 AQ130 Water in Oil

So what are you going to have the machine shop do assume they find to cracks? Magnaflux of the block & head will find cracks you cannot see with your eye.

Sx gear oil change shouldn’t be this hard

One wonders why it's not Torx or Allen head. But it could be harder. A VP duo prop requires you to remove both props (using the tool) and the drain plug is behind the back prop.

Flushing the raw water section might help especially in salt water.

SX-A tilt / trim pump replacement tips?

I brought a Mercruiser trim pump to a place that rebuilds starters and alternators. They rebuilt the electric motor part of the trim pump for a lot less than a new trim pump. Had them do the electric motor part of an winch that mounts on a trunk bumper.

Volvo B20 AQ130 Water in Oil

Most (pleasure) marine engines die of water ingestion rather than wear out. That's why it's important to pull the exhaust manifolds and risers every so many years. Less often fresh water, more often salt water. And in FWC then only the riser needs to be pulled. So the simplest thing to do is...

    Another winterization question

You have not said RWC or FWC. Assume a V8 so a drain plug on both sides of the block. There is the possibility of pockets of water in the block even after draining. Many pour some pink RV antifreeze into the block. It will mix with any water in the block. Couple of gallons. You need to...

    Dpsm 1.95:1 outdrive toast

If the gears are fine then the drive is rebuild able. But shavings have circulated throughout the outdrive and all bearings need to be inspected. Rebuilding is not an easy task. Special tools and following the Volvo Penta manual are required.

    FUEL PUMP

I believe the hose from the carb to the fuel pump is in case the needle valve on the carb gets stuck and fuel continues to flow into the carb bowl. It drains into the fuel pump. I do agree with a marine fuel pump. There are no paths to outside of the engine or bilge in a mechanical fuel pump...

How to winterize aq151a - changed oil recently.

If heat exchanger then it's FWC. Drop the hoses from raw water pump into bilge or something to catch a pint or two of water. If they are not different size hoses remember (or mark) where they go. Don't want to flip them. Look for a blue plastic wing-nut type of drain plug on each exhaust...

    FUEL PUMP

You may need a control with a timed relay, maybe a diode to prevent voltage going from the + lead on the pump to the starter solenoid (assuming you are pulling power from the starter solenoid to run the pump doing cranking) when power is coming from the oil pressure switch to the + lead on the...

    FUEL PUMP

I think if the diaphragm breaks the gas goes into the oil pan and with no gas pressure the engine stops once the carb bown empties.
