Does the switch box impact the rev limiter?

5250 is tops for that motor. Anything above 5500 you risk broken piston skirts. Like I said thevrev limiter is normally on the jets not the props.

Mariner doesn’t go into forward or reverse.

I thought that was an American made Mariner. My fault but that motor is worse. The Yamaha made Mariner has next to 0 parts support for that motor get your money back. Don't even bother taking it apart get your money back. Hopefully you did not pay a lot for it.

Mariner doesn’t go into forward or reverse.

We need to know which lower unit you have. A design 1 or design 2. Design 1 has a bushing in it that will need to be replaced. That drive shaft is north of 250. That should not have been on the front of the motor. The negative battery cables and all grounds are attached on the exhaust plate of that motor. You need to have the negative battery cable attached to the block.

    1992 70hp Johnson - electrical issue - continued new

Slow starter generally means bad ground. Look at where the battery ground is connected to the exhaust cover. If it uses the original extended stud that needs to be shiny clean. That is a weak spot on OMC motors. All connections need to be SHINY clean

Force 70 HP - Full throttle in reverse but underpowered in forward

Your top cylinder has an issue. I would expect your spark to jump 7/16" gap. Is that a single carb motor?

Can trim pump be added to a 40hp that didn't come with it?

Looks closer to an 88-91 model. Get a better pic of the tag as the model # will tell you exactly. That yr would have used an external TNT. Better to buy an aftermarket unit for it.

Force 70 HP - Full throttle in reverse but underpowered in forward

Your motor is running on less than 3 cylinders. Your reverse test proves absolutely nothing.
