Everything done but low rpm at WOT. Distributor spring?

It should have J tubes for the bowl vents if it’s a true marine carb.

Everything done but low rpm at WOT. Distributor spring?

You all got me to thinking so I pulled out my 1988 OMC shop manual & it looks like you should have a 750 CFM Marine Holley!

    KIA Telluride for towing?

Besides an adequately sized tow vehicle the most important things are: Trailer is properly sized to the boat & has enough weight capacity for the boat the boat is properly balanced on the trailer (tongue weight) the trailer brakes work. Always measure tongue weight with a tongue weight scale...

Everything done but low rpm at WOT. Distributor spring?

I’ll add one more thing to that list, anti siphon valve on the gas tank. That’s what stopped my boat from planing out. Then can corrode & the spring loaded ball gets stuck. Restricting fuel flow…

    KIA Telluride for towing?

The OP is talking about towing a 20’ boat, not a 24’ boat. For that all the vehicles I listed are more than adequate. BTW in Europe & the UK people tow boats & caravans with cars, & SUVs. There are very few pick up trucks there. It can be done with good judgement. I towed my boat all the way...

    KIA Telluride for towing?

Isn't yours an Ecoboost? V6 that puts out 470 ft lbs? The Jeep tows just fine, for what I use it for. The boat weighs 5000 lbs on the trailer, the Jeep is rated at 7200 lbs, I don't tow with cargo in it, so just where is the "problem" there Bruce? Oh and by the way, it has a better 4x4 system...

    KIA Telluride for towing?

I’m talking non turbo engines Compared to a Chrysler Pentastar V6 or a Toyota V6 in the 4 Runner the 5.7 Hemi puts out 100 ft lbs more than them. Yes turbos are great for efficiency. More complex but the tech is much better today than when turbos first came on the scene.

    KIA Telluride for towing?

Agreed As I said my 20’ weighed way more that what I would have thought. Towing at the limit is stressful on you & the equipment Towing a 20’ is easy with my V8 Grand Cherokee it’s got 375 ft lbs of torque & a 3.73:1 final drive ratio, rated at 7200 lbs. That’s about 100 ft lbs more than any of...

1989 Four Winns Carrara Mercruiser Alpha 1 Bellows/Gimble Replacment

You need some special tools like an outdrive rack and the gimble bearing remover/installer & alignment tool. I did my Cobra a few years ago and it was pretty easy; the OE bellows lasts approx 10 years on these. I change the bellows when they show small cracks starting, the rubber gets hard &...

    KIA Telluride for towing?

I’ve towed with both the old 98 Grand & 07 Grands both are considered unibodies but they are heavier & stronger than a unibody in a car application. No problems with either one for towing 5,000 lbs. I’d have no hesitancy towing with either a later model Grand Cherokee or Durango A V6 Durango or...

    . . . and I Thought Hi-tech Boat Engines Were Bad . . .

I’ve been thinking of getting a newer Jeep and after looking at many I think…I’ve about had it with EPA, CANBUS, electronic everything, plastic engine parts, etc. My urge seems to be to take a trip OUT WEST…and find a resorted CJ8…..& ride off into the Sunset….with my old tech…,just how I like it….

1987 Bayliner Capri 1950 OMC Cobra bowrider starter bolt broke off.

What’s strange is that starter has the front brace. So why did the bolt break? Left too loose?

    . . . and I Thought Hi-tech Boat Engines Were Bad . . .

There are soft codes that don’t set a check engine light but I guess it’s a matter of how the ECM “defines” a “problem”. As for me I’ll take simple DC wiring and a points distributer with a Quadrajet, Edelbrock or Holley. When there’s a problem with one of those you’ll know it lol!

Trailer needs new axle. Need ideas.

The axles I got from Champion might be priced a bit higher but they are fully welded 1/4” thick steel. When I took off the one I had made in 2004 (3500 lb) to replace with the HD one I had made in 2021 (6000 lb), I sold the old one for almost what I paid for it, because it looked like new! The...
