    Can’t get on plane

Do check both compression and fuel pressure Contrary to what some say rebuilding a Quadrajet is no harder than any other carb. The accel linkage and choke linkage is a little tricky to get off, that's all. The rest, is easy. Not like on a Holley where the bowl gaskets literally glue themselves...

    Can’t get on plane

OK the problem with Quadrajets it that all the cores are very old now. I was able to get mine working right because it was an original un-modified carb, with all the correct parts and jets as built by GM. So all I had to do, was really and I mean REALLY clean it, especially the idle air tubes...

    Towing a Chaparral 23 H2o Sport boat with a 4Runner that has a 5,000 pound tow rating

I think you'll be over, boats always weigh more than the "dry" weight. My little 20' Four Winns that was supposed to weigh just under 3,000 lbs with a trailer that weighs 850, turned out to weigh 5050 lbs on the trailer. So that boat is around 4200 lbs. I used to tow it with my old '98 Grand...

Mercruiser 5.0L two barrel Carb Leak?

That’s known as nozzle drip; I think a carb cleaning is needed to clear that up.

Trailer needs new axle. Need ideas.

Champion Trailers can make a galvanized axle exactly to your specs. They made 2 for me over the years & both fit perfectly. Latest one is a 6,000 capacity drop axle with a lowered center saddle. With 12” brakes & 5 leaf springs this works great on my single axle trailer.

    . . . and I Thought Hi-tech Boat Engines Were Bad . . .

“Why make it simple when it could be complicated?” Seems to be their design philosophy

    . . . and I Thought Hi-tech Boat Engines Were Bad . . .

That’s what scares me about buying a newer late model vehicle! I have a nice Autel scanner that works well with all our vehicles. Sometimes you get a flurry of spurious error codes from a defective battery, might try disconnecting & recharging the battery & reconnecting

1994-96 four Winns freedom 3.0 cobra belt routing

94-96 were the joint venture with Volvo models so it's the same as a Volvo SX of the same year.

High compression in 1 cylinder - 7.4 carb

The problem with cam design is overlap in addition to the torque curve. Too much overlap results in exhaust reversion. If the BBC is just like the SBC, to get the timing cover off the engine oil pan has to come off or at least get lowered.

1988 Bayliner Capri with a 2.3L OMC Ford cobra

Make sure your front cleats are secure I like a mooring with 2 pennant lines instead of one that spreads the load over both cleats.

1988 Bayliner Capri with a 2.3L OMC Ford cobra

About 34” so figure you want at least 4-5 feet to maneuver safely

1988 Bayliner Capri with a 2.3L OMC Ford cobra

Only if it’s going to be shallower than 4 or 5 feet. Otherwise I’d leave it down

High compression in 1 cylinder - 7.4 carb

The head gaskets have to be marine grade & I see that Fel Pro also sells marine intake gaskets separately from the full set. You want the marine gaskets because one thing you don’t want to have happen is for the water passage in the intake to leak into the cam valley. Marine engine gaskets are...

High compression in 1 cylinder - 7.4 carb

Yep that #8 intake valve seemed like it was hardly moving relative to the others. Unlike the earlier small blocks this engine has the non adjustable valve train. So at this point you have to decide how far you want to go with it. You can remove the pushrod & see if it’s bent. If so you can...

HELP: Rusted bolts on leaf springs

Just be careful with those pipe cheaters because if the socket strips the bolt or it breaks it you can go flying & wrench your back! I’m in my 60’s as well lol. Been working on my own stuff about 50 years!

    1988 Bayliner Restore or Replace

the problem with all covers is lack of ventilation. I have a cover with a support frame so I don't have to use shrinkwrap, it does breath but still have moisture inside, even with moisture buckets etc. shrinkwrap should have vents it does not breathe at all. ultimately I should put vents in...

HELP: Rusted bolts on leaf springs

Sounds like the bolts may have been seized in the bushing I never had one that bad and I've replaced the leaf springs on my old trailer 4 times I think over 20+ years. I always grease up the threads when installing (and the springs) and spray all of it a couple times a year with Corrosion X. So...

    1988 Bayliner Restore or Replace

I heard the same thing from the owner of one of the best 'glass & paint shops on Long Island (Raybo Marine in Lindenhurst, Long Island). In fact he seemed to feel that wood was better at strength and flexibility, if the glass work was really done properly. That's the big IF. If I ever buy...
