power steering actuator 2004 Volvo Penta SX-M on 5.0 GXI - replacement cost

If the pump is making noise it’s sucking in air due to low fluid level because of the leak. Until you fix it try to keep the reservoir full or else you’ll wind up having to replace the pump too. On my boat I removed the rear seats & both sides of the exhaust system to gain access.

power steering actuator 2004 Volvo Penta SX-M on 5.0 GXI - replacement cost

How much all depends on how good the access is in your boat & how stuck the big cotter pins are in the mount bolts. The small cotter pins are hard to get at (for the cable & steering arm) but usually come out. The larger ones are easier to access but can be hell to get out. I did this job on my...

OMC Cobra hard to get in neutral

You should make sure the switch actually works before replacing the module. If you do need a new module the later models (like yours) did away with the 2nd switch (overstroke switch) which keeps the ESA from engaging when you’re in gear. If you need new module & can’t get it from OMC/BRP then...

    1989 189 Horizon-where is the fuel tank?

You're lucky you don't have to do this! I used mahogany to make the framing for the gas tank mounts. Still solid 15 years later. done in 2007

    1989 189 Horizon-where is the fuel tank?

I’ve been running E10 in 5 different 2 stroke yard engines with no problems for close to 20 years and they range in age from 12 years old to 25 years old. Yep they sell Tru Fuel here Pre mix with 2 stroke oil mixed in but it’s $8 a gallon or more so I mix my own

    1989 189 Horizon-where is the fuel tank?

Lucky to have found one that was stored inside. The kind of construction they used is very rot prone if stored outside. After we re did the deck in mine I threw out all the carpet and had the deck gel coated in non skid gel coat. Sealed all the screws that hold down the seats. And the boat is...

    1989 189 Horizon-where is the fuel tank?

FWs of that era had a hatch over the gas tank screwed down into the mounts for the tank. That stuff on mine was all cheap pine that replaced with mahogany when I redid the deck 15 years ago. Literally 3 of the 4 mounts rotted off. The hatch was just a piece of carpeted plywood.

Mercruiser - 3.7 ( 470 ) Alpha1 ( please list the sources of CLEAN water in the oil ) about a cup - Antifreeze not leaking - no green in the water -

But the water that exits the Heat Exchanger has to be sent thru the elbow to exit over board, correct? If there is a rusted thru area then the water can get into the exhaust gas passage & then into the cylinders/motor oil.

1988 Bayliner Capri with a 2.3L OMC Ford cobra

Ok yeah one less thing to go wrong! Boats this age often need the helm unit & cable replaced just due to wear. 30+ years is a long time!

Mercruiser - 3.7 ( 470 ) Alpha1 ( please list the sources of CLEAN water in the oil ) about a cup - Antifreeze not leaking - no green in the water -

Even though you have closed cooling your exhaust elbow is still raw water cooled, correct? This could be leaking at the gasket between the manifold & elbow or via a hole in the elbow to from the water side to the exhaust side.

1988 Bayliner Capri with a 2.3L OMC Ford cobra

Not knowing what is in there, hard to say, but I always used Dex from the auto parts store I had to change that P/S actuator a few years ago, made a mess while it was leaking for a couple seasons. Removed the exhaust on both sides for access and had to get this cotter pin removal tool to get...

    1988 four Winn horizon 200

The other thing I wanted to mention is that when I replaced the deck I had the 'glass shop gel coat it in non-skid gelcoat, I did NOT want carpet on a wood cored deck, sealed all the holes to mount seats. IMO carpet is death to wood cored decks, all it does is hold moisture, that rots wood. And...
