FACTORY PARTS..... a bit of a rant....

You can see how many times this thing has been painted with anti fouling, it looks bad but works great. No real repairs in close to 20 years salt water. The Cobra is a little different with the install, you R+R with it in Neutral, no need to keep prop from moving, slide a long thin screwdriver...

FACTORY PARTS..... a bit of a rant....

I r& r the drive EVERY YEAR. Salt water never sleeps! I use a drive jack & have done it so many times it doesn’t take me more that 15 min to get it off & 1/2 hr to put it back on. Been doing this since 2007. Shops here charge at least 300 for that. That drive jack I figure saved me over $4000 in...

FACTORY PARTS..... a bit of a rant....

Even on my old OMC Cobra I will search for and wait for OEM parts for certain things…. Bellows Shift cable Impeller Exhaust I use Barr because they are an OEM supplier. OEM shift cable on my boat was on it when I bought it (in 2002, 21 years ago) and is still good! How? Store boat with drive...

High compression in 1 cylinder - 7.4 carb

If you have been running with the choke like that (nearly closed) it’s been running way too rich & may have a lot of carbon build up in the combustion chambers. One issue with electric chokes is that they are actually an electric un-choke. Unless they have 12v continuously it will stay closed...

    90 4.3 reman

Vibration? Yes the non-balance shaft units do vibrate more, but not excessively, I've had one 21 years. I'd want to know about the cyls that only had 120 & 110 psi. Mine normally is 165-170 both before and after a top end overhaul. If you go with the Vortec, you'll need an 8 bolt Vortec intake...

    Steering issue

If you do have to change the actuator remove the exhaust on both sides, for sure get a cotter pin extractor to get all 4 out. The 2 big ones can be seized in there…

Lumpy idle after carb rebuild | Holley 2300 | Volvo Penta 3.0 GS

The vacuum line if using to set idle mixture has to be manifold vacuum that is below the level of the throttle plate. If there’s no such fitting in yours just use a good digital tachometer; that’s the other acceptable way to do this

    1988 350 Stumble Problem

With the QJet 2 issues to check: Secondary air doors opening too early Not using the correct accel pump for marine use Both when corrected will make a big difference Also if you can make sure your distributor is giving proper total timing advance at the specified rpm. Do you have a Thunderbolt...

    KIA Telluride for towing?

You’ll be better off with a heavier duty SUV with a true 4x4 system & heavier duty components. My picks would be: Late model Grand Cherokee or Durango V6 rated at 6200 lbs V8 rated at 7200 lbs I have a similar sized boat (1988 Four Winns H-200) on a custom HD single axle trailer. I had it...

Clutch Fan to Electric Conversion, 1997 Suburban

There are also different variations of fan clutches available such as normal & severe duty. The SD clutch will improve cooling & A/C performance at the cost of extra noise & a bit of horsepower. We have one on our old ‘98 Grand Cherokee 4.0 and it’s great in hot summer weather & also riding at...

Just thought I'd share a nice photo.

My first “boat” experience was taking the Staten Island Ferry from our home in Brooklyn to Staten Island. I think that got me hooked on boating! This was before the Verrazano Bridge was even built & Staten Island was less developed & populated than in the present day….

1988 Bayliner Capri with a 2.3L OMC Ford cobra

With the trim gauge I just take note of how it reads with the drive 1/2 way up since that’s how I leave it when it’s on the mooring due to tides changing & low water levels (3.5’ at low tide).

Should I replace my surge brakes with electric on my boat trailer?

I don't trailer much living like 300 ft from the harbor but my surge brakes have worked well over the years. The drums didn't rust out over the 17 years I used the 10" units on my original axle, on my vehicles on the other hand, if you get more than 7 years out of a brake rotor before the rust...

1988 Bayliner Capri with a 2.3L OMC Ford cobra

Mine came with the trim gauge, all the gauges are Medallion gauges that believe it or not still work. The Cobra OEM trim senders are NLA but Sierra makes a replacement that works fine.
