    Mercruiser 200 V8 Alpha 1 MR Drive

You are not getting enough water through the engine and into the exhaust to cool the exhaust. Those parts are in the exhaust passage of the outdrive. Could it have been over heated before you owned it ? would verify impeller is not slipping on its hub. Oem merc parts are worth the money here...

    Aluminum intake corrosion

did bodies both the carb bodies and valve covers after bead or soda blasting them. Has held up ok for 2-3 years. I suspect if you degrease hit it with scotch brite clear it you will be ok in terms of decent corrosion resistance

    Distributor Shaft Seal Replacement

If you get the id, od, thickness of it and go to any bearing supply house or McMaster Carr you can likely find a suitable replacement. May be part or size numbers on it as well.

    Aluminum intake corrosion

Usually bead or soda blast it and clear coat it. I’ve used Eastwood Satin Diamond clear on things like carb bodies etc keeps them from corroding. I assume it is on the engine ? Maybe you can hit it with a scotch rite and clear coat it

    Mercarb 2BBL vacuum hose?

Only mechanical fuel pumps use the diaphragm rupture line. If you have a mid 90 s and up motor with electric fuel pump you won’t have one

Bought a Used Boat, but what is it?

If you zip your fly back up and check your ego, you will find folks on this site super helpful. No one is on this site because they go out and buy stuff turnkey …I spent 30 years getting my GTO finally roadworthy doing all the work myself .

Alpha One Generation 1 or Generation 2?

Gen plus is the engine. if the original drive it will have a gen two. Google mercruiser drive identification you will find some parts suppliers who post pics. Gen two has trim cylinders held on with E clips vs nuts on a gen one. Also in front of the prop the gen one is gear housing is...

    Alarm capacitor 4.3L

If this relay decides to stop working you will have no alarm. Would probably want to visual to ensure you have 12 v positive to the buzzer. While annoying at least you are verifying the oil pressure switch is functional every time you start the boat .

    1985 MerCruiser 190

Don't know how you can test it but yes you can change out the regulator if you can find one. In addition to being trouble prone, I believe they are NLA hence the alternator that most folks do.

    Mercruiser vs. Volvo parts availability

While the dog clutch is not sexy it is hard to beat a Merc Alpha for parts availability and low cost of ownership. Gen 2 which is current production came out in 91, so plenty of older boats with them installed. Of course this only works for boats up to about 22 ft before they tap out to a more...
