1981 120 Mercruiser idles rough when hot

Idle adjustment needs to be done while underway in the water....cannot be done sitting on a trailer in the driveway !! Do a compression check, these 4 cylinder engines are known for warped heads, if compression is low on 2&3 your head is probably warped and they don't idle well, especially when...

    Best hitch protector?

Smaller trailers look me that are just thrown onto a flatbed trailer and taken somewhere else to remove the locks. Two guys can pick one up... Not sure where you boat at, but .....that is a lot of security to go thru....isn't there a more friendly place to go boating ?? Been a trailer boater...

Will this boat fit on that trailer?

The short answer is yes it can be made to fit. The longer answer is do you have the knowledge and ability to set it up properly ? Adjustments will be required and some replacement bunks or brackets will probably be needed. Proper hull support is critical, especially on an aluminum boat !!

    Kicker on a CC?

Once you have purchased that new 4 stroke, of course no one wants to trade, but .....my 1992 is in mint condition, if it were to go boom...would I want to spend 10K on a new motor or spend a couple thousand on another like new 1992 is the more honest question. If I could find another motor in...

    Kicker on a CC?

Honestly...who can afford twin engines today ?? Just look me Auto's and trucks, these are much more reliable than in the old days, they claim breakdowns are more rare...at our local marina, there are a number of newer boat owners that might argue that point, but that is what the stats show !

    Kicker on a CC?

Unfortunately, there are way to many folks out on the water in boats that are not in proper running order ! In my 60 yrs if boating I have towed numerous boats, lucky for me, never been towed yet ! I never leave the dock unless everything is in proper working order !! At out local launch...

Picture of fuel lines/Primer Bulb lines for J25RLEDA

The fuel pump should have a pressure rating as will the crankcase, so why not change cm and see if they are in spec, rather than replacing ?

Picture of fuel lines/Primer Bulb lines for J25RLEDA

Check your fuel connecters, clean them out. Only takes a few minutes to clean out the fuel tank and pickup tube/ filter.. Those pickups do get crushed up or mashed on ocassion. Even though your fuel pump is new, I have saw new parts not function correctly. Blowing compressed air thru carb...

    Kicker on a CC?

Co nsider cost to begin with....can't compare a new 20 grand motor to a used two stroke. I can honestly say, in my over 60 years of boating I have never wore out or needed a rebuild in a boat engine. I used my boats a lot, on the water whenever the weather permitted, but also maintained...

    Kicker on a CC?

Being the old guy here, I was raised to be self sufficient, so I apply this to my boating as well. I carry what I need to get me back in case of a failure. In my 60 plus years of boating never needed a tow, always had a way to get back.. I try to think of every scenario I could run into...

New issue cropped up on my transom/bunk position!

Every boat and trailer combo I have ever owned has needed extra support, whether more rollers, more bunks, whatever..... Can't have to much support ! My 1983 Islanders sat on a full roller trailer all of its life, many added rollers from factory and to this day, there are no dents in the hull...

New issue cropped up on my transom/bunk position!

My 1992 Sylvan 16' only uses wood for floors and decking. None in the transom or for any stringers.

New issue cropped up on my transom/bunk position!

Even if you have wood in the transom, there would not be any along the bottom where the bulge is. Wood is typically up near the top if any.
