New issue cropped up on my transom/bunk position!

Not sure I would try fixing that bulge either, especially if it isn't hurting anything or leaking. Sooner or later our boats will get some boo-boos, we just live with them. I would consider using some covered 2x6 to spread out the load bearing surface. You could always remove a leaf in the...

Can I use a jack plate for short shaft motor on tall transom

" Can" it be done ? Mabey, but there are so many issues that could arise it would not be worth the trouble in my opinion. I believe in doing the job the right way, rather than constantly fixing the issues....

New issue cropped up on my transom/bunk position!

Are you referring to the " strakes" the long rib running front to back as stringers ?? According to most all aluminum boat mfgrs, do not put the strakes onto the bunks, the bunks need to be inside or outside of these strakes. Some folks even add some type of padding under the carpet covering...

    Fiberglass patch bilge pump area

I would take a good look at the other wood in your hull. If one piece was rotted, there will be more ! That wood is the skeleton of your hull, without that skeleton, your hull will fold up. Better to be safe than sorry......

New issue cropped up on my transom/bunk position!

If the springs are worn or collapsed or way to stiff the hull will get beat on going down bumpy roads. In my 60 yrs I have saw this on occasion with trailers that are to stiff or poor springs. Not common but it happens. Often people use a wider board for the bunk to spread out the load...

New issue cropped up on my transom/bunk position!

If I am not mistaken, that is an aluminum boat, no wood support down there. Looks more like a trailer with no suspension and a cranked down rachet strap that beat and crushed the hull.

New issue cropped up on my transom/bunk position!

How much weight is in or on that transom ? Looks to me like bunk should have been wider or you need another bunk. Overtime transom strap could cause that. Is the trailer to stiff/ no suspension ?? Been around aluminum boats for over 60 years and never ran across that before, definitely a...

How to best install trolley motor

Looks like the same motor I have.....as far as your install goes.....I would make a deck using 5/8" or 3/4" plywood to install level to the gunwale. Set motor so it is centered when deployed for best steering. Some aluminum angle attached to the sides that make the plywood deck flat to the...

    Best hitch protector?

What you describe is why I choose to live where I do and why I watch where I travel to. When we traveled with ATV and boat trailers, along with locks, we used security systems...portable add on units that can alert you if someone messes with your stuff ! I have no problem confronting them...

    Best hitch protector?

I have locks on all my stuff as well, motor lock, spare tire lock, hitch locks, security system on tow vehicle etc. Everything within reason I can do....do I loose sleep over it....nope, just part of life and I do carry good insurance so I ultimately get things replaced. Have I been robbed...

Boat to store inside garage ?

Many folks add a small addition to the back of there garage to make a place for there OB to stick into. Only needs to be motor width and stick back a couple/ three feet, kinda like a refrigerator add on. My 16' SC with OB barely fits in a 24' deep garage with trailer tongue. So I built a 40'...

What trolling motor does my boat need?

My 16' alum side console weighs about 1000 lbs. The 55 lb MK electric does great, I troll with it mostly or use the spot lock. 55 lbs works great on my boat....but I would not want any less !!

    Best hitch protector?

Make sure you have decent insurance with a low deductable. Unless you have a really high dollar boat, insurance is cheap. My boat is valued at 6K total then broken down by hull, motor, trailer values. Total coverage is less than a hundred bucks a year with a 250 deductable.

Qestion on pre-treating this hole in the aluinium transom?

Years back I picked up an old leaky Jon boat in a field. Ribs were worn thru and numerous leaky rivets and some corrosion pin holes. Did some searching and found a product called " leak stopper" available thru home depot and tractor supply. It is a clear roofing sealer that is fairly thick...

    Best hitch protector?

Do the best you can with locks, you might add a stranded cable around the axle and thru the wheels, cables can be harder to cut thru and not noticeable but the wheel only goes around a time or two then breaks the wheel so they won't get to far. Then add some tags, one in the boat, one in the...

Are these gelcoat blisters? Need general advice on repair.

I would defiantly open each one up and be sure no water is trapped inside..remember that fiberglass itself is not waterproof, it is the gel coat that seals water out. I would want them dry then sealed before painting over them.

Are these gelcoat blisters? Need general advice on repair.

I would want those areas totally sealed before putting any paint over them.
