Ha, true. Thick gloves + pliers This was the biggest concern waaaay at the beginning of the thread. Are your plugs black again? It's plenty economical to junk it and throw on a standard carb. I've never mucked with one, but jumping 12v to it with the engine off should let you hear if it's at...

Boat swamped, let's see if we can get it running...

Our friends think her taste in men is suspect. 2 glorious days alone down here. Spent another $50 on gas, which is less fun when you're alone. Running pretty well, there's a certain RPM that it doesn't seem happy at (12-1500 or so), but settles out OK. It's very slight though, don't remember if...

    Dead injector?

Don't know how easy it is to throw a noid light on the suspect injectors, but that would be my next move... Or swap injectors.

Dies when throttling up from idle after warm up/ 89 merc 3.7 2bbl

Might not be getting consistent spark. Certainly sounds flooded. Have you checked to make sure your choke isn't closed? Are you trying to clear it by starting it with the throttle wide open? Once it starts and is running rough, have you looked down the throat at idle to make sure you aren't...

    Merc/GM 4.3 tops out at 4000 rpm

Don't think so, it sounds gradual. Missing on 1 cylinder you probably wouldn't even hear. But you can throw a timing light on there and see if you're getting a constant spark on each cylinder.

Dies when throttling up from idle after warm up/ 89 merc 3.7 2bbl

Have you actually checked for spark and fuel when it quits on you?

    Second Boarding Ladder . . .

OMG, I'm still shallow breathing about cutting a hole that large in a boat that expensive, esp so close to the water line. You're a brave man, looks good. My solution is leave the dogs at home.

This tests whether you're getting proper combustion in each cylinder. So multiple reasons, but this will tell you whether each cylinder is actually producing power.

1987 Power Play XLT-185 - floors, stringers, and upholstery

That's a whole nother layer of complexity, would be nice but shouldn't have have anything to do with the failure. Does the sniper log data?

1987 Power Play XLT-185 - floors, stringers, and upholstery

Wow, had missed this thread. Sucks-->could have been worse. I wonder if it was an issue with the touch screen failure, or a failure of the unit in general. Maybe none of the AFR data (and assuming it gets rpm data somehow as well) was making it to the PCM...
